What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Thanks, Gian. Are the EP versions mostly simple acoustic ? or productions ? My personal favorite DG is A Century Ends but I like Sell and Flesh nearly as well. His newer stuff is good but not up to the simple honesty of his early efforts.
Have seen him live 4 times, the first in Seattle in a little club with 75 people in March 2000, my spouse next to me shooting pics less than 6 feet from him. A mesmerizing performance that night. Last time I saw him was 2003 with 3000 people most of whom only recognized one song - Babylon. It is such a privilege to catch an artist before they reach the masses, those intimate gigs are very special.
Best regards,
Jeff A

My friend and i spent the evening listen to records and remembering great times at live gigs in a small place not far from here.
The EPs record is guitar acoustic and absolutely good.
If you like his voice you should give him the money.
imho

That I am going to do, thanks for the info.
Did you ever see an American named Eric Woods who toured Italy several times around 1999-2002 ? His website is dormant, but he has three terrific albums: Letters From The Earth, Illustrated Nights, and Don't Just Dance. Cristina Dona' sings on several tracks of Illustrated Nights and EW manager was Mauro Eufrosini. The out of print albums were influenced by Happy/Sad era Tim Buckley and EW was an acquaintance of Jeff Buckley's.
Anyway, thanks again for the DG info.

I borrowed it based on sightings here. I like this one a lot, much more, on first listens, than I did "Failer".

Hi Munch,
not sure what you mean by "can't play it anymore" ?
I have approx 20 authorized bootlegs of DG, two of which I recorded myself. I have copies of 3 of the 4 live shows I have seen - nice memories to listen to.
Remind me of the date of your get-together, was it today ?

Texas?.... Yes! But i've not seen the film yet though, this stands up very well as an album considering it's a 'picture soundtrack', it's very good musically although it's far from being one of his happiest, i enjoy it very much and when i've seen the film i'll probably appreciate it even more!
A Meeting by the River?.... It's been on my wish list for far, far too long ; )
Not heard 'A Meeting by the River' as yet, but like to think it's an Indian equivalent to my favourite Cooder album; which has an African flavour!

Thanks for that as I was also thinking about getting Modern Cool as well.

Ewemon,
Ok I've been listening to the regular redbook version and the MOFI version. I also did the wife test on it - an independent view - and we have come to a conclusion.
Firstly they both sound very good indeed. The regular redbook is a little louder, the vocals a touch more forward but sounds very good.
The MOFI version is a little more relaxed, smoother, more refined, less forward vocals but better defined bass. Overall a nicer listen and the one I would want to keep of the two of them.

Music has a powerful way of expressing what we sometimes can't say in words, but sometimes that music can hurt too much and we have to let it be. I can't even think about going where you have been.
Sincere regards
