What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi Haim - very curious about this one - how does it compare with "Tango: Zero Hour", assuming you've heard that?

Thanks

Its a brilliant brilliant albm Diccus62.

Really strong songs all the way through, one of those albums where you always stay to the end.

Give it a few listens and you will love it.

Great purchase.

Do you have any other Polly? Dry, and Uh Huh Her would be my recommends if not. The latter she wrote, played every instrument, produced, mixed etc etc herself. Was slightly disappointed she wasnt there to hand it over to me in the shop.. Big Grin

Enjoy

think i bought Dry on vinyl when it came out and have Stories. I love her ballsy image sometimes more than her music but she is excellent.

She just epitomises Cool IMO

Still never seen her live but I'll sort that one of these days.

Take it steady

Mate, that is my new favourite ever photo of polly. D*mn I love that girl. Big Grin

Seen her a coupla times. Brixton Academy is a particularly happy memory Smile

Highly recommended. If you get the chance, take it.

Oh, and to keep "on thread", right this minute Nick Drake five leaves left but my album of the night has been Boxer by The National. Slightly Midlake but more singer songwriter and in an excellent way.

Nice.

My favourite Hall and Oates disc along with War Babies. Had the pleasure of seeing them in the '70's and they put on a vg show. Always remember the corny Disco Mirror Ball they had hanging above the stage but somehow in the context of the whole show it worked.

The big band trumpety style of music is not my usual cup of tea but this film has always been one of my favourites with Marianne Faithfull acting out of her skin.
It should be noted that one of the session guitarists Les Reed booked was Jimmy Page, shortly before he joined the The New Yarbirds, and shortly to become Led Zeppelin... (so the musics not all bad ; )
I think one needs a sense of humour listerning to this 'album' with it's nicely done motorcycle sounds here and there just to cue you in with the picture. One needs to be philosophical too, it's not a cheery ending... Daniel would agree, wearing his tweed jacket and leaning on the fireplace with pipe in hand.
I'm a little disapointed with the distance of reproduction going by the analogue hiss in the quieter bits, i would say it's been canted off the master tape onto cd without any undue fiddling around... so it could be much worse... but deserves a quality remastering job... (perhaps by Jimmy Page)?

My recommendation would be: forget this cd, buy the dvd instead - it's cheaper.

Geoff,

My copy is a US version. Not sure why the different sleeve, but I have seen both versions advertised.

Bought the Bossa one on vinyl today.

Cheers
