What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Couldn't agree more, and it still sounds fantastic today. I remember buying this at Virgin in Leeds when they were hardly known. That is until Killer, Billion Dollar Babies and Schools Out came on to the scene.

Hi Jim

I like Killer and Billion Dollar Babies almost, but not quite, as much. I bought LITD when I was at school - we were allowed to play music during break/lunch time. The class spilt into three groups - those who only listened to Reggae, those who only listened to Motown and me (well I did have a few kids aligned with me) - anyway with the Motowners claiming the best music came from Detroit I finally conceded and said yes it did and was allowed to play some AC, I think they were expecting a girl soul singer.

The last two tracks, "Sarah" and "I Saw a Light" are terrifying (it's the way she screams, "I saw a light... coming through the trees", as all hell breaks loose)! I think she has potential to produce a fantastic second album (in the same way that Joanna Newsom improved on "Milk Eyed Mender" with "Ys", say).

Worth a try if you like Kate Bush, Joanna Newsom, and other female "eccentrics".

Very welcome, Haim.

Just had the Mozdzer / Danielsson CD on, and it's a very very nice recording, too...

cheers
Stefan

I highly recommend this recording with Danielsson and Mozdner. This would appeal to any Wasilewski/ECM fans. It is a very good CD but only seems to be available in Poland, so would need to be purchased off the web - www.fan.pl. Their previous album Time is very good as well

Not listened to this CD for a couple of years - forgotten how brilliant the Britten concertos are.
