What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Ian,

I played this yesterday and today and I can't believe how good this is. The sound at times is Steely Dan without Don & Walt. Not surprising really since most of the musicains have sessioned for SD. A wonderful surprise and years of listening guaranteed.

Denis

Denis,

Agreed. My favourite RL-J album, so far. Winker

One of my brothers gave me a double CD of theirs for Christmas which, rather shamefully I haven't got round to listening to yet (fortunately he doesn't, as far as I know, read these pages).

Currently listening Vaughan Williams' Job, conducted by Adrian Boult.

My first experience of Misha Alperin's work - really enjoying it.

Vaughan Williams and the Bad Seeds are somewhat different musically, it has to be said!! You must give your gift a spin.

I don't doubt it. I fully intend to listen, I just haven't got to it yet (there are rather a lot of discs on my to be listened to shelf). I'll try and remember to post back when I do - it's a double disc of Abattoir Blues and The Lyre of Orpheus.

Excellent record. For Cave's softer side, try The Boatman's Call.

You're quite right Nigel, this is a slight change of pace! But I rather like it (though I have to say I'm not quite sure why my brother suggested that it was similar to Leonard Cohen - maybe that will become apparent).

Fleetwood Mac sounding at their best (well almost - Then Play On remains my favourite, but this is great and not an AOR track to be found anywhere on this gem) - Peter Green and Danny Kirwan. Hard to believe what happened to Danny after he left the group. They are about to re-release his solo catalogue, which should be worth a listen.
