What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I don't usually buy live music, preferring a studio sound but the 'audience appreciation' on this album does allow the good time atmosphere to come though nicely, and also highlights the more skillfull bits of play which actually helps a jazz-novice (such as i) to clue in easier to the finer details of performance. In 'Perdido' the piano play reminded me of Les Dawson; but it does work out okay in a fun kind of way using so much fine skill on the keyboard, i could warm to this nicely even though the piano sounds at times too distant due to the age and way of recording. The alto-sax played by Paul Desmond is also fabulous...
I enjoy this ablum very much and my only complaint is it's too far too short at 38 minutes : )

note to myself... i must buy some more jazz...

Chris

It is easier on a Mac

1. View the web page with the picture on that you want to post using Safari.

2. Press Ctrl while you Click on the image with your mouse

3. Select Copy Image Address from the pop up menu

4. Now go to the forum Post A Reply

5. Open the Image box) and press Command and V together (i.e. the Apple key and the V) and the address of the picture should automatically go in the box.

6. Click OK and you're done - the image address with appear between {IMG} and {/IMG} (except they'll be square brackets instead of curly ones).

When you've finished your post as normal the image will appear wherever the {IMG} tag occurs in your message.

HTH Rotf

BTW the Mac calls properties Information and if you Control and Click on a file or folder in the Finder and select Get Info then you'll see lots of stuff about a file. However, you don't need to to do anything as complicated as that to get the address of an image.

Hi Munch,

About 4 years ago Warszawa was my first Porcupine Tree purchase and I think I might have become a bit obsessive Winker.
I am poorer financially but much richer musically Cool.

Hi Munch,

I would recommend "In Absentia" for your next PT purchase if you don't have it. Track 2 "Trains" is worth the price of the entire record. Really there's not a bad song on the lot.

Currently on P...

In the car on the way home on silver disc...

Munch - it looks like you're hooked. Buy any and all the PT you can it's all good, then buy Steven Wilson's other stuff (Blackfield is very good).

Now on the LP12...

Is it national Porcupine Tree listening day?

I have the Nearfest 2001 recording on the system at the moment.

For anyone buying 'In Absentia', try and get the edition with the second disk with the lovely 'Drown With Me' on it.

I totally agree with Larry, 'Trains' is a wonderful track, and the one that helped me make the choice of the CD5x as my new CD player, about which I posted elsewhere.

If anyone would like a desktop back ground 'inspired' by Porcupine Tree, I have three on my website, see:

or

Hello MilesSmiles, is your SACD copy a hybrid? : )

(maybe a silly question, i think they have to be to work on a naim-audio cdp)

Mozart horn concerti, wonderfully played by Eric Ruske with superb accompaniment from Mackerras and the SCO - the result of a recent splurge on the Amazon market place (which seems to have sped up of late, ordered Saturday, arrived in the post yesterday).

There's a lovely gem at the end of the disc - a full orchestration with Richard Stuart on vocal duties, of Flanders and Swann's Ill Wind.

Just prior to that it was the second half of this disc of Brahms two serenades (again Mackerras and the SCO - and an even fast arrival, showing up on Monday), a fine complement to their excellent recordings of the symphonies.

A question for Cyrene! I am listening to Asturias by Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists. However, if I download a FLAC file and burn an audio CD will it play on a Naim CD Player? I have a CD3. I only listen to music on a computer just to get a flavor of the music. I do not listen to MP3s.

Cheers SteveT
