How To Tell A Naim Mains Lead???

Posted by: bblesley on 31 May 2005

Hi All,

Over the years all my mains leads have been mixed up - anyone give me any hints as to the lettering or any other identifiers on the actual Naim supplied ones.

Just about to sell some older gear and would hate to give away the Naim ones!

Best Wishes.

Well, someone has to say it.

Upgrade, buy some new kit and the leads will be in the box !

Sorry.

(Disclaimer: Not if you buy Fraim - and you know you should ....................)

Am I allowed to question the fact that you should only use Naim mains cables but Naim themselves appear to use many different cables already from Pirelli ( I guess Italian) to Ching Cheng (Surely Chinese).

They MUST be sonically different!!!

A suspicious BB.

Have you no faith? Naim have listened to their gear in the different countries and carefully selected the mains cable which sounds best with that particular mains supply.
I'm surprised you even had to ask. Next you'll be suggesting they use any old mains cable that happens to be available at the right price!

Not at all. The mains, in it's journey from the power plant where it was created to my house has gone through all manner of cables over which I have no control whatsoever. The idea that the last meter of this journey of many miles is going to make a significant difference is absurd.

The argument with speaker cables is different. For a start, naim amplifiers are designed with the electrical properties of naca 5 in mind (as opposed to those of other cables), but also what travels to down the speaker wire to the speakers is a high quality signal resulting from all the clever electronic tricks going on inside my naim boxes.
