of napscs, hicaps, headlines and a clever tech question

I was reading the current Headline post on the forum about virtues of new vs. old napscs vs. Hicaps and this occurred to me. The old Headline (don't know about the new), as we are all aware, is mono powered, i.e. it uses only one side of the Hicap's two rails. The other half of a dedicated 'cap goes to waste - as does half of $1700. Not the best thing but I can see how Naim isn't interested in building a 'Halfcap' just for the Headline. Naim could easily make the Headline stereo powered using both sides of the Hicap but then it wouldn't be plug and play compatible with the little one-sided napsc. (I believe naim could have addressed this making the Healine's boards true dual mono with internal jumpers that could be soldered in or cut by the dealer depending on whether the customer was using a nascp or a Hicap.)
SO! Here's my clever idea/question. Why not use the other side of the Hicap in a Headline-'cap combination to power the preamp instead of a napsc? No more need for a napsc and savings of $425. You'd still be down $425 (1700/2-425) but maybe you'd get $425 worth of sonic improvement by having a Hicap on the pre's control boards. At worst it's one less component to gather dust. Digression: anyone ever try using a cap instead of a napsc on their pre??? Could it sound worse?
Naim would have to offer a special split cable: din with two wires, each with those cb radio/ mic type connectors on them. Would this present a grounding problem in a Naim system? Does Naim wish to comment? I got a feeling you guys never thought of this either. This simple cable would go a long way towards making up for the fact that Headline/ Hicap users aren't really getting a very good deal.
