Beck

I've been playing Sea Change a lot lately. It's easily my favourite Beck album. I love the lush sound, and the heart-wrenching oppressively sad feel of the album as a whole is just brilliant.

I'm missing a few Beck albums in my collection. To give you an idea of the kind of Beck I prefer, of his other albums that I own, Odelay gets a few plays, but I rarely listen to Guero or Mutations - though I love Nobody's Fault But My Own.

I guess that leaves Mellow Gold, Midnite Vultures and The Information.

Are any of these essential Beck?

Mellow Gold is largely unlistenable (I find) and only noteworthy for 'Loser'.

I love Odelay and Mutations, but hated Midnight Vulture.

I keep promising to re-try Sea Change but it didn't grab me on my initial listens.

I've been a little wary of the brand new stuff - so any feedback would be welcomed by me too!

My favorite Beck CD's are Mellow Gold, Sea Change(although it is a little depressing) and One Foot In The Grave which is more acoustic and a little more raw than his later releases.

Chief,

If you like Odelay, I'd check out Midnite Vultures, which is (to my ears) in a similar vein, but a bit more in yer face.

I have The Information, his latest, but I can't recommend it. Like Guero, it sounds like Beck isn't trying very hard. I've not heard Guerolito (sp?), the spiced up verion of Guero.

I don't have much Beck, but I wasn't impressed with Guerolito....i was hoping Guero would have been better. Better cancel that order then Frown

I must be quite weird if I like one album by an artist I usually like all their other albums and with beck thats exactly the case. Though my favourite is Mutations then Sea Change but that might change as time goes by. I suppose the problem might be he does experiment with different genres and maybe thats what people dislike and I like nearly all genres of music as I've said I'm probably just weird. Razz

Right I'm off to listen to Guero on 45rpm Vinyl.

Odelay is fab. I really like Sea Change (thanks for the intro, Jay!), and liked Guerro/Guerrolito (LP/CD, respectively - clever eh?!) very much.

Just got Mutations and listening to it now.....I'm actually surprised how much I like it. More acoustic than i was expecting.
