"Mad World"

What about that eh?

A wrist slitting dirge as the Christmas number one single.

I love it, and am delighted to see that it beat all the other 'jingle bells' crap that was supposed to jolly us along.

Kinda restores my faith in human nature and confirms the emotional power of real music.

More important it kept Dross Idol off #1.

UNfortunately Radio 2 have played it 642 times a day for the last month, now I just find it bloody annoying.

MOre over in the video he looks like phil collins did in Buster, enough to make any one puke.

I think it is fantastic - much better than the original. To anybody who hasn't seen Donnie Darko, it's well worth watching, too.
Great to see a decent song as Christmas No1!

I can definitely recommend Donnie Darko. It's the best SciFi/Horror/Time-Travel/Superhero/Teen-Angst flick I've ever seen. Seriously though, its very good and definitely worth watching.

I've only heard a brief clip of the new version (yep - that's right - I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD IT!!!!) and I concur with Paul and Garyi - there's no comparison. The new one is an OK cover, but crap compared to the original - where's that creepy synth???

Dross Idol sucks - but at least a non-pretty, non-stick insect gets some fame for a change. We need ugly bands who can play, like in the good old days like the 60s and 70s Smile

I want to say that I don't hate this track! I had donnie darko imported because they took their time releasing it in this country! I bought it along side the sound track.

Now for the film the song is great! It fits in. Don't really like it as a stand alone thing though. It doesn't convey the emotion of the original song. Curious if I'm biased here as i flick through my TFF lp collection though! I have found it interesting to read what you all wrote though. I am a little puzzled as to why people like it so much!

The best christmas no. 1 remains Housemartins with Caravan of love though! :P
