If you are referring to the SACS hybrids from about 7 years ago, yes they are very good, but I'm not a Stones fan so I can't give any detailed comment and I haven't heard the SACD layers (555 is better, I believe). Why not buy one and try it? They are quite cheap now.

I take it you mean the new remasters that came out about a month ago. Stcky Fingers, IORR, Black and Blue, Goats Head etc
Haven't heard them yet but they have got mixed reviews for sound quality.

The SHM CD and the (few year old) SACD releases of Beggars Banquet sound quite similar to my ears (using a CD5x + FC2). The SHM version is slightly better for the acoustic tracks, with more details.
My old London LP is another story, less aggressive but with less details.

Get the original cds that were put out when the stones albums first went onto CD.
They are miles better than anything that has been done since.
SHM CDs are not worth the money and dont sound any way near as good as the first transfers to cd.

Where can I find Rolling Stones original non remastered cds ?
Sotheby's ?

Munch, I have to disagree as IMO the original CDs don't come close to the hybrid remasters. The recently released remasters of Goats Head etc. IMO are not as well done as the hybrid though are still an improvement on the originals.

I have the Virgin remasters from the mid-1990s, which sound exceptional, quite good enough for me!
I noticed that the Guardian last Friday gave Goat's Head Soup 5 stars, which says something about the quality of today's releases, since GHS was badly criticised on release. I've always loved it and find it far more listenable than almost any of their LPs, though not as funky as Sticky or as powerful as Exile. I think Mick was into a bit of an Astral Weeks thing at the time, which shows in the music. And Star**r, which is possibly their finest hour.

If anoyne likes a good read here's a link to a detailed review of each of the ABKCO remasters.
Be patient it is rewarding.

Thank you Ewemon that is exactly what I have wanted for the past several years, as the Stones catalogue is really difficult to get a handle on. Much appreciated.

This is an impressive amount of work. But this is dated December 13, 2002, and concentrates on the various CD releases. Listening equipment is not mentioned.

A disc called 'Stripped Companion' has a version of 'Honest I Do' from the March '95 Toshiba-Studio Sessions which is a superbly intimate and detailed recording of Mick and co. in top form.
(which I don't actually own, of course)
