We need Skirts For Men
Posted by: DAVOhorn on 23 January 2009
Dear All,
It is somewhat extremely very hot and humid here in Sydney. Uncomfortably so.
The one thing that causes most discomfort in this heat is ones erm errrmmmm NETHER REGIONS.
Shorts just dont seem to allow sufficient airflow around ones BITS.
So as one walks along looking bandy legged so as to maximise comfort, one gazes upon those of the feminine persuasion in their very short skirts and dresses allowing a much better airflow around that dept. Thus leading to less discomfort.
So as a Scot i should dig the old HEAVY WOOLEN KILT out of the cupboard or come up with MAN SKIRTS.
This i feel would sell well in sunnier and sweatier climes, but we need a certain MASCULINE FACTOR to the MAN SKIRT so that we do not look a touch erm erm ODD or CAMP.
So i sit here with sweat pouring down my body contemplating my soggy navel on this idea.
Any Ideas.
I know in many island cultures men wear skirt like garments, so could these be adapted to Western Culture and sensibilities?
regards David

Mate, I have a whole wardrobe of Burmese
lungi. Look them up on Wiki (I'm not sure I'm allowed to hyperlink?).
They're perfect !

Steve.

No joke in my backpacker days in India I used to wear lunghis most of the time, large towels wrapped around your hip and usually worn by the resident muslim population.
So comfortable I couldn't understand why it wasn't commonplace in (at least southern) Europe too.

Just buy a pair of leather sandals, a head scarf, a flowery t-shirt, a fake fur gilet, and dress as a hippy.

With temperatures in Sydney today again over 40C I might seriously consider it.

Warm clothing helps against the cold. But you can do nothing, when it gets too hot.
Leave Australia.

Get a few tattoos and you can be David Beckham.

I find a Cherie Lunghi draped around my loins to be most beneficial in both hot and cold weather.

There's no way I'll wear a fucking skirt.
Find a nudist beach or a looser pair of shorts otherwise.

sadly this fashion trend is well underway in seattle since the introduction of the Utilikilt. Probably the worst men's couture fad to come out of Seattle since the grunge movement.

When I read the first post I thought skirts for men might not be a bad idea. Then I saw the pictures above and thought - no way, it just ain't right.
The kilt is the only "Skirt" that can look ok on a man IMO.

There's nothing new under the sun...
Except in England in AD43, there wasn't much sun to speak of.
Must have been very drafty for them around the nether regions!
Probably why they all went back to Rome again...
So, what did the Romans ever do for us? : )

Well kilts were all the rage a few years back in gay ol' San francisco. saw a parade with men in leather and canvas type "butch" cloth. I think you have to be pretty beefy to pull it off, like those Scots that throw axes and timber poles. You don't dare snigger at them.
I'll stick to loose shorts.

You need a good set of legs like these.

Even a good set of legs won't pull this one off.

Apparently I wore a skirt when I got married. I thought it was a kilt but all my Scottish in laws insisted it wasn't as it was being worn by an englishman!

Same here mark. I got married in Scotland and convinced all my mates it would be an insult if they didn't wear kilts to the wedding, hence we Englishmen were practically the only people to be wearing 'em! (I'm third from the left...)

I think men look really sexy in kilts, sarongs and I even like that photo of the guy in skirt and braces.... More skirts for men is a great idea!

Not the best picture as I had to scan it in from a photo album
