Chaps
I spent a few days in Manchester on business last week and whilst cruising up the M6 I found Jazz FM on frequency 101.4
I cannot find any trace of it down here in Swindon. Is it a northern only transmission or does it have some obscure frequency.
Many thanks
Mick

It used to play jazz, a long time ago when it started. Probably still does sometimes.

I'd strongly second Jazz on 3 - much too late for me to stay awake, but some of the best live recordings around. I keep meaning to set the PC up to record it, then burn to CD for posterity.
I'm not so sure Late Junction will be so much up Mick's street, but it's my favourite. Worth persevering with, it's a very eclectic mix. Make sure you have a pen and paper handy for those 'must buy' moments!
Andy.

Used to listen a lot to Jazz FM in the early years but it's unfortunately become too mainstream and suffers from a very limited playlist (George Benson, Nina Simone and any bland, sax-oriented, pseudo-jazz tripe) made worse by irritating DJ's who in the main appear to know nothing about Jazz. The guys in Manchester seemed to have a handle on things but the station's desperate attempt to secure conventional advertising revenue has taken its toll.
This is a great shame really as, when it started, it showed great promise but their snappy jingle proclaiming 'Blues, Soul and smooth, smooth Jazz' transformed it from something genuinely different into much of the same without any real evidence of Blues, sod-all decent Soul and Jazz that belongs in a waiting room.
Don't know what their listening figures are now but I stopped listening long ago.

I can get it Berkshire, only a few M-way junctions from Swindon.
I lsometimes listen to it when partaking of an evening meal with the wife. (Adopts Fast show voice ,, and now. Dinnnnnner jaaazz)
I do use a pukka roof aerial to pull in signals mind.

For your information the London Version of Jazz FM is now testing on Sky Digital and therefore available nationwide. It does not yet appear in the Electronic Programme Guide.
To receive it go to the Services Menu
Press 4 System Setup
Press 4 Add Channels
Enter Frequency 12.324
Polarisation V
Symbol rate 27500
FEC 2/3
Find channels
When the list of channels appears for that frequency press the Green button to go to the second page.
Scroll down to jfm and press the yellow button to select it.
Then press select again and use backup to get back out of the menu system.
To listen to Jazz FM ..if you have done everything correctly ...press services... other channels and you should see jfm listed ...highlight it and press select.
Hook your sky digibox to your Naim if you haven't already and away you go. ( Or of course listen through your TV!!)
