iPhone/iPod Issue

Posted by: pcstockton on 27 July 2009

I am constantly ribbed for despising iTunes in general, and today I feel FULLY justified.

I am trying to transfer the music on my iPhone to my work computer. Of course, as you all already might know, if the music was not originally sourced from my work computer, it will not sync.

It will instead delete all the music from my iPhone. Not only will it not let me transfer from iPhone to computer, it will not even allow me to transfer some new music from my work computer without deleting everything already on there.

What????? Frown Roll Eyes Red Face Confused

What happens if my original computer's hard drive shits the bed? What if it is stolen, lost or otherwise no longer available? I lose all of my rips, hard work, and music?

I cannot use the iPhone/Pod to re-sync to another iTunes?

This is as stupid as it gets. EVERY single other player in the world allows you to do whatever you want with the music, sync to as many computers, and allows the device to act as a flash drive of sorts.

The iPhone is truly amazing. I just wish someone else made it.

There is no easy (or free) work-around, and I am very hesitant to download (and pay for) very suspect third party software that will allegedly take care of this issue.

Am i missing something? It is so f-ing silly, I feel like i must be simply missing something obvious. But multiple Google searches arent bearing any fruit.

Help?

thx

I'll say it again - for those of you who use a Mac, try a program called Senuti. I did, and it downloaded all of the tunes on my iPhone to a second computer, flawlessly.

Docmark,

Ill say it again. My puter at work is a PC. I have a Mac at home, but that is where my files are so not needed there.

thanks tho.

aleg,

Yes I know of this. Not sure if that works for iPhone/Touch. But I will give it a shot now.

thanks,

On the linked page it says
quote:
Please use version 0.6.5.x for iPhone/iPod touch OS 3.0

So I guess that would count as a yes. Winker

And it is meant to be used with foobar, your all time favourite Big Grin , could you ask for more?

aleg,

I actually have this component already but have never tried it.

I just did and a very strange thing happened. The same thing that happened when I tried to use Winamp to pull my music off onto my hard drive.

When it scans the iPhone it sees my old music. The batch I had on the iPhone prior to my most recent sync. Very strange. It must be some kind of cached info in the iPhone.

All i know is it is only seeing muisc that was previously on the phone, not what is currently there.

Trying to work through it.

thx,
p

Still no luck... I have scoured the internet, iLounge, and many, many friends.

I am not going to pay $20 to attempt it unless I actually lost the original files.

So i will simply give up trying to take things off of the iPhone other than pictures.

thanks again for the suggestions everybody!

Does this work?

As Patrick F said on the first page , Ipod Rip is the one I have always used . They have both Mac and PC versions and it has a free trial period , which is fine as you will only have to use it once and the trial period lets you use it ten times before having to pay .

ROFT,

thanks for the tipper!

I am trying it now. it has been transferring for about an hour, but it is not locked up or anything. Just a long process it seems. I have about 5.5 GB on my iPhone...

I will know more when it finishes up.

thanks again. Fingers crossed.

ROTF,

Yes that worked wonderfully. It takes a while but no biggie there.

I cannot pull them into Foobar, which isn't a big deal. When I do import them into Foobar, I get the Four letter song names (JYHD, ADHR, KSOP)and they are unplayable.

But I imported them into iTunes and they work just fine.

Thanks alot for the patience and help.

All trials I found only let you take one song at a time.

You're very welcome - really glad it worked.

PS - always glad to help a fellow Zappa fan - grew up listening to his albums and love his music: he was a genius - saw him live twice and treasure those moments; just like a penguin in bondage, boy.

That's easy. Because this is a male-dominated forum and often there is far too much testosterone flying around!

By the way, did you just spill my pint? Winker

I have a program called SharePod, when you use it my ipodtouch behaves like a harddisk.I think when its works on my touch it must work on the iphone.
