LP12 speed instability

Posted by: Giles Felgate on 16 September 2002

Dear all,
I was demoing a mid80's LP12 and it seemd to be suffer quite badly from speed instability, dropping down to 28or so at times and speeding up to 37 at times. Any thougts out there as to the reason? Belt? motor? power supply? Arm was a Basik Plus and cartridge an Audio Technica OC9. The bugger was that when it did hit the right speed, it sounded excellent, too bad it was two secnds out of five!

Lingo, Valhalla or Basik?

I've no direct experience, but I'd have thought motor/belt or bearing since I'd assume that the power supply boards either work or don't.

Regards,
Steve.

Could be a valhalla board on the verge of failing altogether. Could also be the belt binding.

Hi,

Mine had the same problem back in June. I replaced the three blue (may be another color) electrolytic capacitors with same value (usually 33uF or 47uf 250V) AXIAL POLARIZED capacitors.

If in the US you can get them at www.mcmelectronics.com or www.partsxpress.com.
