Shahinians in an AV system
Posted by: Willito on 20 January 2003
Hi all,
Has anyone tried using Shahinians in AV set-up? If so, what did you use for the center channel? My dealer suggests using a super-elf on its side.
Any views?
Thanks,
Will

I so wish!!!!
Reality is that I use my system for primarily music but also for AV (as long as girlfriend can watch movies with thrilling sound effects she is willing to turn a blind eye to my excesses!).
Could you imagine a full Shahinian AV system? Hawk fronts, Arc center (so that it is flush against the wall underneath your 42" plasma screen) and Obelisk sides? You could probably finance a film for a similar amount!!!

Don't forget the 2nd Arc as rear centre....

I have the stereo outputs from my cheap Toshiba DVD player to my 82. With movies, the sound out the ARC's is excellent. I don't feel the need for a Full AV setup.
But hey, a 5.1 Shahinian / Naim setup must be amazing. And you will also need loads of plastic sheets to cover the broken windows when the bass kick's in.
Cheers,
Mark.

I use my (old) Arcs in a combo AV/music system - I am just using a phantom centre channel - i.e. the processor mixes the centre channel in to the left and right. Processor is a computer with MAudio Delta 410 sound card, outputting to my 32.5/250. Sounds good to me, and avoids another amplifier being necessary!

Tried with my Compasses (now gone) and it was a poor result as front L+R - due to the diffuse sound, the image steering wasn't up to scratch and it was a very surreal and not entirely pleasant way to experience cinema.
With music, yes, but Compasses with AV is a no-no in my own experience.
