Classical & J*** music... get me started!

Posted by: Noopz on 01 October 2006

Hey guys,

In with my new naim hifi I have begun to enjoy my cds so much more.

I like to think I have fairly diverse taste, today I have been listening to The Moody Blues, Zucherro, Nina Simone, Billy Joel, Norah Jones and am currently listening to Metallica.

Two types of music that I know I'll love are classical& Jazz.. yet I don't have any records in these genres...mainly because I don't know where to start.

To give you some clues:

I like the piano a LOT (along with a sax especially)
I like huge scale orchestral stuff... think of 'The Ecstasy of Gold' from the good bad, and the ugly.
I also like the whole performance of the london festival orchestra on the 'Days of future passed' LP from the moody blues.

With this in mind can anyone give me to CDs to buy that are guarrenteed winners?

Thanks in advance!

Dear Noopz,

I have just bumped my 'classical threads worth reading' list to the top of the page. The list has been updated several times (though not for a while) and the most recent one is in the last post of the first page.

You might like to see smu's Must have classical albums thread from about a week ago.

For jazz, the Jazz for Fredrik, Bill Evans and Miles Davis at 80 threads are worth reading.

regards, Tam

Let it never be said that I didn't take a swing at a softball ... thanks for asking, Noopz.

People say a lot of very nice things about this album, right here on the Naim label. It features piano, sax (and other woodwinds, played by the inimitable Paul McCandless), and acoustic bass.

Remember the River

I hope you dig it.

All best,
Fred
