Mudical Fidelity T1

Posted by: Dazlin on 10 May 2002

Hi,

Has anybody here ever listened to a Musical Fidelity T1 FM Tuner?

Reason I ask is I just bought one out of the Loot and it should arrive next week.

I know, If I wanted a review, I should have got it BEFORE I bought it but, hey, much as I like to picture gentlamanly conduct and ethics prevailing in this forum, I didn't want to risk the chance of one of you snapping it up!

Anyway, I thgought it might be worth taking a chance on it as it was quite reasonable and came from a Naim system belonging to a classical musician.

So, Punish me with my cynicism or big-up the product if you know it, I would genuinely be interested.

By the way, I have listened to Naim Tuners and of course I want one, however I will have to wait a little longer for that kind of money to be spare!

Thanks

Darren

I do remember that they were pretty well reviewed when they came out. They were £200 new, and at the time I couldn't afford one to match my B1 Amp. Still like the weird shape though!

I have a friend running one. Nice looks, warm friendly sound. A used bargain, I'd reckon.

Haven't compared to my ref (Quad FM4), or Naim NAT-03. Might try and arrange a "supertest" one of these days.

Appreciate your input, I am inclined to think under £100 for something british wasn't bad. Waiting for carrier to deliver it today so looking for a suitable FM aerial install deal.

Thanks again

The original T-1 was an analogue design in a A-1 amp case ie heatsinks on top, but unlike the A-1, the tuner didn't overheat and bugger up...Sonically it bettered my Sugden T48, Itself a good'un so if a mk one you should be very pleased, especially if you paid less than £150.
The Mk2 was a much cheaper, digital affair which, allthough looking more modern and having presets, was soundwise, not in the same league. It wasn't crap, but the magic of the original had been lost...a Mk2 probably worth £75ish.
