Silk Degrees - Its too silkey

Posted by: AWS on 21 July 2005

I've always loved the music on the Boz Skaggs album "Silk Degrees". However, the CD version has always sounded way too laid back to me. It seems muddled as if the musicians are performing behind a thick curtain. It has sounded that way with all my previous kits and really isn't much better with my current (CDX2/250 olive/hicap/180/Spendor 5e's). BTW, Boz's live DVD played on my 5 yr old Arcam equipment has vastly superior sound quality. I wish they would remaster the DVD.

Do others think this CD is poor quality also? I know it is not my kit.

Can't help, as I only have the vinyl, but have you heard the recent live double - it has a version of 'loan me a dime' that rocks in a way I never expected that song without Duanne Allman to be able to...

Yes I have. It's the DVD I referred to in my previous post. The title is

Boz Scaggs - Greatest Hits Live

The musical fidelity is miles ahead of the DVD. That is why I am hoping they will remaster it.
