In my case, age has nothing to do with it: I'm as fit as I was twenty years ago but I never had the necessary strength or stamina.

I cycled to work a few times last winter in blinding blizzards! Coming back home in the dark on rural roads through three meter deep snow drifts! But I cheated and used my mountain bike.
