Kenny Burrell and Andy Warhol
Posted by: P on 16 June 2001
I'm a really big Kenny Burrell fan.
Can anyone shed any light on the Andy Warhol covers?
I came across this album for sale recently. It's on Blue Note - 1543 and it's extremely expensive!
How much should one pay and are the Warhol sleeves collectable?
Thanks
P.

It's a bit hard to tell from your scan - is it entitled "Kenny Burrell, Volume 2"? The Goldmine guide says it's worth between US $12.50 and $50.00 [VG - NM] if it is a W.63rd St address. OTOH, if it is a "New York USA", it is $6.25 to $25. How much is the one you're looking at? IME, Blue Notes are "overpriced" ie they bring big money, irrespective of the price guides.

I think it might just be a little bit overpriced yes?

And look at the number of bids! (And it's only graded VG+.) Blue Note seems to go ballistic on e-bay. Perhaps one could argue that the final price represents a true indication of the market value, rather than what the Goldmine says. I saw a Sonny Clark Cool Struttin' go for over $1500 US once, to a Japanese buyer (apparently Sonny was very popular in Japan). I think "book value" for than one was $100 or so. Notwithstanding such differences, this still seems rather high. I've paid rather less for vinyl buying from dealers than e-bay prices, but it depends on the item. But I've never paid anywhere near that much!!!

I had no idea that Andy Warhol had written any tunes, much less that Kenny Burrell covered them.

Have I ever played the UK before? How did I sound?
I'd truly love to play in the UK anytime "they" would have me ... If "they" build it, I will come.
Thanks for your kind words.
