Tried to engage you music lovers with the Cinematic cd...total waste of time...so how about this?
Really hoping some of you people know who David Lowery is??
One thing I've noticed about the Naim/Mana forum thingies is how everyone seems to listen to the same stuff..
Sad, very sad

David Lowery was the man behind the deranged genius of Camper Van Beethoven, after which I always thought Cracker were something of a disappointment. Kind of conventional country/bluesy rock/pop for the sort of US College kids who aren't "weird" enough for Marilyn Manson and NIN but not square enough for Elton John. Sort of Crowded House territory.
I have the debut album "Cracker" which is not bad (and I applauded the fantastic anti-NRA sentiment of "Can I take My Gun to Heaven?") and "Kerosene Hat" which is much better. I was vaguely surprised to hear they have new album as I imagined they had split up and I think I'd want to hear it before i bought it.
BTW Bowery co-wrote "Sick of Goodbyes" (which is on Kerosene Hat) with Mark Linkous and IIRC subsequently gave Linkous his old 8-track and various bits and pieces. Linkous then used said equipment to form Sparklehorse and record the material that ultimately became the fantastic "Viviadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot" which is 20 times better than anything Cracker ever did. "Sick of Goodbyes" then appeared as a Sparklehorse track on the rather disappointing "Good Morning Spider" album.
Matthew
PS Having done a bit of digging I understand the correct genre description for Cracker is "Roots Rock" so if you like that sort of stuff you'll probably like this.

But haven't got around to it yet.
I've got "Key Lime Pie" by CvB and both "Cracker" and "Kerosene Hat". I'd been wondering for ages when the new album would appear.
I think "Kerosene Hat" is fantastic - could make it into my Top 20 faves (but definitely Top 50!!). My version (on CD) has 99 tracks, most of which are blank (obviously), but with the odd extra track thrown in.
So, what do you think of the new album?
