Hendrix Liva at Albert Hall free with Sunday Times

Posted by: Guido Fawkes on 10 September 2006

Just listening to a rather good Hendrix CD that came free with the Sunday Times - so it really cost £2 because the news paper is not something that really interests me, but the CD is worth every penny,

Little Wing
Voodoo Chile
Room full of Mirrors
Fire
Purple Haze
Wild Thing
Bleeding Heart
Sunshine of your Love
Hey Joe
Foxy Lady

Missed this edition of the Sunday Times but finally got my hands on a copy of the disc. What a gem!

Ha! I missed the ST because I usually get a Saturday Times. I don't bother with a Sunday Times because it seems such a waste to bin over half of it before I leave the newsagent!

As for the Mail, I wouldn't wrap chips in it. Wet Wet Wet seems appropriate. Winker

This week in the ST - a Johnny Cash CD with mainly 50's Sun songs - top stuff!

Cheers

Didn't cost me £2. My other half works in a newsagents.

I've listened to the RFH concert a few times now and I must say that - taken together with his quite dreadful Blue Wild Angel concert recorded (very shortly before his death) the following year at the Isle of Wight Festival CD (for which I paid good money last year) - the suggestion that Hendrix was 'played out' at the end of his career is lent credence.

Just how many times could the man be expected to pump life into the corpses of songs such as 'Hey Joe' and 'Voodoo Chile'?

Some of the unreleased studio stuff was great (eg 'Hey Baby, New Rising Sun') and he was capable of stirring himself when it really mattered, as can be heard from the Band of Gypsys and Woodstock recordings. In general, though, he seems to have been in pretty steep decline.

A massive loss!
