is downloading again - amazing.

I haven't got sick of it yet. The Grand Canyon National Park is certainly worth a look too.
What has really amazed me is the size of some of the larger cities - Los Angeles for instance. If you zero in on the buildings so that you can pick out individual cars and then pull back out again it really sinks in how much land Los Angeles covers.

where is it? There's a label next to the town that says "cutralco airport", or are you asking something different?
Posted on: 11 January 2006 by garyi
John are yo on PC? Bare in mind this info is not in the programme, I get no information accept for Argentina!
However I am now guessing you have airports 'on' in the filters. I'll try that.
Cutralco seems out of the way and all the houses seem quite big and expensive!

yes I have airports on. I stuck the town name into google and it looks like it's an oil town.

The scope of things is quite fantastic, I am having one of those humbling ant moments.
Hey ho.

Looks like Google have updated the photos for my area: previously it was very grainy, blurred and I couldn't even tell road from house; but now it shows a lot of detail. However, it's a very old pic: it pre-dates the work I did on the front garden during summer 2002 and is possibly even older given that I don't recognise the car in the drive and I've been here since the end of 98.

they've done mine (beckenham) too although the image is still a few years old as its showing a house across the road rather than the block of flats that's there now.

Does your wife?
Good point, but I'd have recognised his milk-float.

Here's our pad on google earth.....
......complete with overgrown feckin laylandie tree (since cut down) and hedge, which I had to cut back and we plan on getting rid of......
Been on nights this trip, so been putting the hours in, and haven't gotten bored of GE yet!!
The detail is amazing, and interesting to see where they've selected to go to high definition....
.....like Area 51......
.....Find Las Vegas, look NNW for a wee round blob of white sand that's high def and zoom in, or just look here - 37 degrees 14 feet 17.18 inches North 115 degrees 49 feet 03.4 feet West.
And now that I've mentioned Area 51 on this public forum the FBI will be watching so be carefull what you say......
Cheers,
Ali

By far the most overrated of our National Parks. Think what you want about America, but if you can visit Glacier National Park and not come away with a new appreciation for this country, you're too jaded to still be alive

god all you people are loaded.
Posted on: 11 January 2006 by garyi
Video just because the canyon is so well known does not make it overrated.
Perhaps you are a view junkie if you do not think the grand canyon is breath taking?

How do you get high-res pictures of anything outside the US? Most of the UK and all of Denmark are just small field resolution. Can't even see houses!
Posted on: 12 January 2006 by garyi
You don't 'get to do' anything, its as quick as the data becomes available, anything in grey squares is high res, there is a fair amount in the UK, especially the london areas.
Posted on: 12 January 2006 by Nime
Thanks garyi.
Posted on: 12 January 2006 by Rasher
Shame it isn't in real time. It would be like live GTA!
Posted on: 12 January 2006 by MichaelC
Have now got mid-resolution pics of where we live but stll not enough detail to discern individual houses.
Google Earth is amazing though. The best thing about it is that future genrations will or should have a far better grip on geography and the wonders of nature really placed in context.
