Its worth pointing out that Google had very little to do with this software they just purhcased it lock and stock from another software company.

We don't want tobig up Google to much here, their search engine is not even that great.

This is remarkable quality. I've even managed to zoom in on my pool.
Rashers gaff

Imagine Mick's shame at seeing a Lada in the drive on Google Earth! It was only the paper boy delivering at the precise moment that the cameras passed overhead! Big Grin

Re:Rashers Gaff. Error or wishful thinking?

I want to know which one is Rasher, never thought I would want to shag a man.

I think at the time I was inside having a threesome with the blondes. Smile But Garyi, come round, you never know what might happen. Winker

My area is not mapped.
Anyway the definition is sometimes so poor i see only large spots.
It did clog my pc.
Not so interesting btw.
Posted on: 15 January 2006 by garyi
So in conclusin then your home was not hi def and your PC is crap so Google Earth is not interesting? Roll Eyes

I had a look round the carribean last night wishing my life away. The seas round there are stunning.
Posted on: 15 January 2006 by Gianluigi Mazzorana
No.
The fact is that certain areas are mapped but have no definition while others shows even people on the streets.
I saw cars in Manhattan and facilities in airbase area in Aviano, but i can't see the houses in my place or in other places i've been around europe.
Don't know the reason for this, but after many trials i gave up.
Posted on: 15 January 2006 by garyi
I guess the main reason is the earth is like really really big and they are working on it Winker

Gianluigi

My house is not even on the maps as it wasn't built when the pictures were taken but it doesn't stop me from whiling away a few hours looking at some of the fantastic pictures it can present.

Your area might be stunningly beautiful yet remote and that is why the images are not so high resolution. They tend to concentrate on either popular or populated areas.

Have a look at Milan or Rome or even Salisbury........

Salisbury isn't high res. Roll Eyes
Posted on: 15 January 2006 by garyi
To be fair there must be some sort of restrictions in place, Salisbury Plain, wilton, etc, there are some areas of strategic importance. Andover for instance has the DLO, Wilton has land force command.

I am just guessing but perhaps they are not allowed to be high res.

Sailsbury was meant to be to be the hook to show Gianluigi that what is important in his world might not be to the masses......

Oh dear Roll Eyes
Posted on: 15 January 2006 by Gianluigi Mazzorana
That's right.
But this means that the soft is made for masses and not for everyone.
If i want to see my old girlfriend house in Denmark i can't.
So they tell you: if you want to see the Grand Canyon you can.
I don't care about Crand Canyon.
That's the point.

Gianluigi

If you don't see your old Danish girlfriend, you don't need to see her house......

That's the point.

Search out the Playboy Mansion............ you ain't going to get it there either !!!!!
Posted on: 15 January 2006 by Gianluigi Mazzorana
Gosh!
I don't want to see my danish girlfriend.
I only wanted to see the place.
I surely did not expect to be able to see if they changed curtains during the years.

Stay a questioning individual Gianluigi!
Who wants to be a member of the masses?

You can get high-res, air-photo images of most of Denmark. Much better than Google. If you know how... Winker

Take a look at the military sites dotted around the world, in particular in the USA - even Area 51 is high resolution.

You just have to access the Danish county council's website.

Might be a drag finding your way about though as it's in Danish.

You don't really want to give away private adresses online.

Microsoft, which late last year began offering detailed images of metropolitan areas taken from airplanes, said last week that it would team with Verizon Communications to distribute local business advertisements from Verizon's superpages.com on Microsoft's local search pages.

And Amazon, whose A9 subsidiary has since August offered street-level images taken from vans, says the main goal of its site is to help people find local businesses. The company's site currently lists images from two dozen U.S. cities.

The most detailed images available from Microsoft's service are currently only for some U.S. cities, and there are some satellite images of international locations. Google offers images from all over the world, but the amount of detail varies greatly depending on the location.
