How to hide the wires...

Posted by: Nigel Cavendish on 21 July 2008

I will be wall mounting a flat panel tv and wondered how to hide all the wires that will feed it.

It will be on an external wall so plaster, breeze block, brick. Below it will be a "letterbox" type power-flue gas fire.

Any ideas other than stripping some plaster and putting in some form of ducting?

Chase them into the wall into some ducting. Nothing worse than a nice wall mount with one of those cable tidy conduits running down the outside of the wall. I was quoted £150 (not including AV cables) to add a new power spur in behind my TV and chase the AV cables in the wall back to my equipment and make good the wall ready for painting.

Cheers

Make sure you have some decent heat shielding.

Your screen is a heat source, and has enough of a job on its' hands venting the heat it produces... if it has an influx of heat from below it may compromise the operational life.

Most manufacturers allude to this early in the manual, usually in the same "safety precautions" section that tells you not to put a vase full of flowers & water on top. These are the precautions which, if not taken, will have invalidated your warranty Red Face
