Naimie get together in Vienna

Posted by: Franz K on 27 October 2008

I thought Id start a new thread on this theme trying to sort out a few issues:

Timing?: Spring/early summer 2009
for example June (9)10-14(15) (the 11th being a holiday over here)

How long: Extended Weekend? (thursday through monday?)

Accommodation: Ideal would be a hotel somewhere near the center of the city. One hotel for all?

Who is going to come, how many?

Local Team: Who else of us is living in Vienna?
Involvement of local dealer? (longtone)

Ideas for cultural program:
Musikverein, Konzerthaus, Opera, Museums, Heurigen, (Bus)tour outside of Vienna..

Cheers

Franz

PS: Very exciting, would love if this is going to fly Smile

Confused Oh, in that case, I will choose Kaiserschmarrn Big Grin ! = cut-up and sugared pancake with raisins

All the best

Hi Michael, hi Norman
It would also be desirable if other Viennese Naimowners would join; thank you Michael for your commitment. Since I dont know Norman's customer in Vienna with active DBLs and I am not sure, if he is on this forum manybe you, Norman could contact him and inform him about the possibility of a meeting in vienna and ask him whether he would like to join.

Hi Frank

Sounds like a good plan, I will email them Ian & I might even be able to stay with them, the lady of the house is an excellent cook and the music sounds great there too Winker. Not many of our customers are active participants on the forum, just the occasional "lurkers" and rarely posters.

Rather like Peter we would not wish to be treading on anyone’s toes though.

Warmest regards

Dear Friends,

In the meantime, I have tried to get a little organized Smile

Would it be ok, if all who plan to come to vienna would stay together in one hotel;
and may I suggest the following hotel?
http://www.mercure.com/de/hotel-5357-mercure-grand-hote...ier-wien/index.shtml

Its very close to the center of the city, has very good transportation to/from the airport and its not too far from where I live Smile Around are also some nice pubs, restorants etc.

As of now, the following weekends are no problem to accomodate 10-15 Persons there:

First weekend in may (1-4)
Second weekend in may (8-11)
Third weekend in june (19-22)
Fourth weekend in june (26-29)

It woulds be great, if we could agree on one (extended) weekend where all/most can come Smile
This should happen fairly soon as reservations are going fast. I guess thats going to be the hard part Big Grin

For the moment, this is all I can think of
All the best

Franz

At this stage, I can attend any date as the 24 Heurs Du Mans is being conveniently held on the weekend of 13th & 14th June Cool

Kind regards,

Peter

All dates are fine for me...

The weekend of May 1st is typically a public holiday weekend which could mean higher air fares and hotel rates.

Hello Franz,

May is the best month for birdwatching ( another hobby, sorry Winker ), so I would prefer the weekends in June.

Best wishes

Dear Friends,

Aside from all the Keel for Aro excitement, I thought Id dig this thread out of oblivion before it gets closed Smile . OK, its still quite a long time until Summer, yet airfairs etc. wont get cheaper.

From responses so far the 3rd or the 4th weekend in June are looking quite good.

Cheers

Hi Peter,
So it ought to be, since you'll need to bring and of course install the AROKEEL Big Grin

Cheers, Franz

For Austrian bugs an Austrian bug repellent bought in Vienna should be most effective Smile

Hi Franz,

i would like to join in the meeting. I am living in Vienna as you know.
Any weekend except the third will be O.K. for me.
Due to the fact that i am not such a great classical music fan it would be great if you consider also rock, blues, jazz, country,... concerts in your programm. Maybe something like that (its my guitar teacher in concert playing the Harry Lime theme mentioned above): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybossF1q4g8&feature=related

Hi Franz,
I hope we can still manage this, it's years since I've been in Vienna. Do we need to sort out any of the logistics - hotels etc ?

Gentlemen!

Since we are approaching the end of 2008 - Christmas presents should be all unpacked by now and installed:-), lets go for the whole hog with our plans for a get together in early summer 2009.

As losely planned so far, 3rd to 4th weekends in June look promising. Thats between June 19th and 29th. Nevertheless, we should make an efford to narrow that down even further!

With repect to accomodation -for all who do not know where to stay already, may I suggest
the following hotel: http://www.mercure.com/de/hotel-5357-mercure-grand-hote...ier-wien/index.shtml.

Its reasonably priced, very close to the center of the city, with perfect accomodations to inner city public trasportation and to the airport. Besides, its also close to where I live Smile As of now, there should be still plenty of rooms availably but are expected to get booked quickly.

Similarly, remember that plane tickets should be booked quite in advance to avoid unavailablility and price increases.

A list again of all forum members who anounced interest so far:

Ken
Derek Wright?
Cymbiosis
Don Philips
Geoff
Edouard?
Manni
Lark
ROTF?
baz100
Polarbear?
Craig

LOCALS:
Franz
Michael
Jodl
Thomas

Many kind regards

Franz

Just to say I will/can attend except for the weekend of the 24h Du Mans - As I've promised to take my 16 year old son this summer as for once, he doesn't have exams and I'm free too! Eek

Best regards,

Peter

Dear Peter, dear Barrie

Le Mans (http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/2008/pages/horaires_gb.html) is from june 9th through 15th if I am not mistaken Smile

Do you have any preferences with respect to third vs fourth weekend?

I personally incline towards the weekend June 20/21 as my wife most likely will be out of town June 27/28 and I am sure she would like to be part of our meeting Eek

Cheers

Franz
