What's more boring: Formula 1 or Association Football?

Posted by: Deane F on 12 April 2007

Every time a thread is posted about Formula One people post about how boring F1 is these days blah blah blah.

Myself, I think few things could be more boring than watching football. I mean, nothing happens. There might be a goal occasionally, sure, but only occasionally. And the highly fit "athletes" need to stop after 45 minutes for a rest.

I watch Formula One races and follow the sport because I want to see my team win. It's never boring. But I just can't see what keeps people watching football.

Now, if they changed the rules a little in Association Football to make it more interesting for spectators it might be worth watching - but until then it is just boring.

I know which dumb blond looks the most exciting to me...

F1, followed by golf.
F1 does seem to be a good way of sneaking in a post pub siesta on a sunday afternoon.

Basketball.
What's the point of a sport where all the meaningful action happens in the last 30 seconds.

Depends whether you are watching or doing...sport generally that is.

But Dean you are from New Zealand. Trying to explain to you why football is a fantastic sport is like trying to describe the colour blue to a blind person. Winker

I never understood what was supposed to be exciting about football. I hated it at school, though I enjoyed cricket, and running, both of which can be fairly dull to watch as well!

Before you say that is because of my Norwegian half, I can add that Norwegians are just as keen on football as British people...

AS for F1, I used to watch it, but without a television I don't now. I have not missed it. In fact to read a report in the paper once in a blue moon is more interesting than the actual event for me.

Start watching British or World Superbikes they are much more exciting.

Deane

When you finally actually post an opinion, its to say something designed to be antagonistic.

If you like F1, fine, but why bother to snipe at football?

Having said that, NZ is not actually a World Giant of footie, so maybe that explains something.

Nothing happens?

You did not watch Man U vs. Roma, did you? And even if football players take a break after 45 minutes, its five minutes longer than the rugger buggers can manage, and neither set of players requires to sit down for their job.

F1 used to be exciting and I used to watch it all the time when I was younger. Then you had chargers like Keke Rosberg, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Gilles Villeneuve etc, who made it a real contest. These days it seems to be a bit of a procession with only one or two cars having a genuine chance of winning.

As to football being boring...you need to get along to Loftus Rd!

Why snipe at football? Because it is dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull (etc ad infinitum)

And I'm not from new Zealand!

In your opinion.

Oiy Veh !! You gotta love a sport that is played by 6'5 inch freaks. Also, you don't have to wait an hour aND A HALF before someone scores a goal.

And what's with the bit where a bunch of guys prancing around in shorts hugging and patting each other on the butt after each goal ? Err... I like to keep an open mind but......

Incidentally, nothing could be duller than watching a bunch of Formula 1 sleaze cars chasing around a track for six hours. Confused Winker

That would be American Football aka "helmet rugby", then.

Hell Mike, what is the matter? Are you depressed or something? Well, don't drink too much - they are probably never likely to get desperate enough to call up dads army reservists like you to go to Iraq. You'll have to settle for bullying people on the Forum for now.

Deanne

About 15% of the Brits serving in Iraq are "reservists", and they have been awarded gallantry medals. There are also "reservists" ( actually, TA soldiers IIRC ) serving in Afghanistan.

Oh, and Bosnia.

I think the Kiwi headcount is about nil.

So, avoid trying to comment on current affairs, stick to sheep.

You are doing yourself no favours with utterly dim posts like this.

PS - I am not, nor have I ever been a reservist.

Sorry Mike.

I'm such an Arrse.

You're not a reservist....

You're a Stupid TA Bastard, aren't you?

Lads, calm down.

To answer your question Deane, Formula 1 is considerably more boring than football.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say Formula 1 is almost always boring, whereas football is almost never boring.

As Mike said, this week's Man Utd game was brilliant to watch, and will be long remembered. How many recent Formula 1 races can you say the same thing about?

You did ask. Razz

I remain continually calm.

I think Deanne should open a bottle of wine when he gets in, sit down with his wife and play some top tunes on his hifi.

I have always wondered.. is it:

My point exactly. It's a matter of taste. If you find Formula One races boring then......don't watch.

I find football boring - so I don't watch football.

But, I don't wade into the football threads on the Forum and whine about how boring I find football and suggest they change the shape of the ball or the rules of the game to make it more interesting for me.

I find every Formula One race interesting because I follow a team. If Ferrari ever pulled out of F1 I'd probably lose all interest.

There are Minardi fans out there too...

But you see no problem in whining about football being dull? And you then moan when this is pointed out?

Then I'd regard you a a Ferrari fan, rather than an F1 fan.

That's absolutely correct. I see no problem whining about football and then moaning when this is pointed out. This is because I do not post on this forum for the purposes of personal development.

Really, it's only you, Mike, and a few of your friends, that bother assisting members of this forum with their personal development by posting personal attacks on those members.

Sounds about right. I have no problem with you regarding me as such. I guess I am not pure. Shucks. Oh well.

Mike, you're quite right that it is "only" my opinion that footy is boring. It is "only" your opinion that it is not - and you do come across as being rather self-important with your response.

I only posted to point out that a lack of interest in footy cannot always be explained by what your home nation's sport is. Don't be so narrow-minded Winker

F1 is very often pretty boring to me, but I'd still much rather watch that than footy. I'd much rather enter a competitive event in my Caterham than watch any form of sport...
