New Year's Day

It is my tradition to play U2's splendid song from 'War' on the said day.

Anyone else with relevant offerings?

Tom Alves is a wise, bold leader, and all should follow his excellent example.

I'm grateful.

For some bizarre reason, I ended up playing the full 17-minute version of In A Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly. It's not that good really, heaven knows why it sold so many copies.

Then I played some Brunswick soul (Major Lance, Chi-Lites, Erma Franklin and the wonderful Otis Leavill), a Kraftwerk bootleg called N1 To Zurich, a bit of Dylan, some Sparks, some Telex, S-Express, Hard Corps, Die Krupps, finishing up with Eddie Harris and Tito Puente.

To top it off I played Elvis' magnificent 1969 LP From Elvis In Memphis

There's new year eclecticism for you!

Kevin

PS Fred – you're not the Fred Simon who was in Lost Generation are you?

No, nor in The New Lost Generation.

Nor am I the Fred Simon who played tenor sax with Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie.

I am yet another Fred Simon.

Try as I may, I just can't be all FRED SIMONs to all people.

Truth? Soon? Ah, such elusive, relative terms. Let's ask the Magic 8 Ball ...

Answer: Signs Are Favorable

Although the earliest possible "soon" would still be months away.
