XPS power supply.
Posted by: Bazzur on 05 December 2007
I have just bought a second hand CDX Player. I am still waiting for it to arrive, and can't wait to hear it. However I am looking now for a second hand XPS Power supply to hook it up to.
Does anyone have any idea how much I should pay for one, and where would be the best place to find one.
Up to now I can't find any of the older type (Olive series) on e-bay.
Cheers ..... Bazzur

Rather than repeat a list of suitable sources - could you do a search on second hand?
Nope - I can't seem to find the comprehensive list I remembered being posted - and life is calling me back from the quest.
Ask away - but no links in the answers please.

I paid £1,100 on ebay for a 1999 XPS earlier this yeay, have not seen many go for less than £1K. Allow 1 - 1.1K

What CDI said.
If you get it from a reputable dealer you will enjoy the positive additional benefits of constant blood pressure.

Bazzur, welcome to the forum. I picked one up in Feb this year on e-bay for £825. Usually selling at about the £1k mark, look out in the early new year just when the credit card bills come in. More people selling less buying

A s/h XPS is generally £850-1100.
A s/h XPS2 is generally £1600-1800.
For which you get (a) an inherently better machine; (b) newer, so further away from service (£250ish); (c) S-XPS Burndy power interconnect (£300+) included as standard (except the very early ones).

Very true. I sold my 252 and 250.2 for very disappointing prices in January this year. Good for the buyers though!
Bear in mind that the XPS2 is quite a bit better than the XPS, though visually it would not match of course.

I was fortunate to find a 2005 XPS2 s/h last month on Audiogon for under $2,900 with all shipping and customs costs included. It was the most significant piece of kit added to date, turning my CDX2 from a very clean, technically accurate player into well rounded, musical experience.
And there have been a few others in the $2,800-$3000 price range this month as well.
