Late nite listening
Posted by: docmark on 25 May 2010
Can anybody suggest some late night music - sort of electronica, moody, down-beat, trance-like? Maybe a dumb request, but there are times that I just want to be taken by the music and drift along..... So far, I can think of people like Moby, Tangerine Dream, Eno. I'd rather not get into the new-age stuff like Enya.

Jean Michel Jarre Oxygene and Equinoxe - puts me in a trance.

In the same vein, Free System Project and Redshift.
Some Underworld goes there for me, the download from their website:

Riverrun - I'm A Big Sister
One of my most listened to chilled pieces of music, and thanks to checking it for this thread I see they have now uploaded it uncompressed. Must grab that.

I guess some Dead Can Dance might do the job as well.

Definitely Dead Can Dance.
Also some Orbital, the 'Times Fly' EP is pretty laid back.
Robert Fripp has done a few ambient collaborations with Eno 'Evening Star' is good, and also his Frippertronics albums.
David Sylvian has done some ambient too, with mixed results. 'Alchemy: An Index of Possibilities' is good, his albums with Holgar Czukay are a bit too dark and abstract for me most of the time.

Yes, absolutely! The first thing that came to mind.

As discussed on the Krautrock thread this fits the bill perfectly;
Manual Gottsching – E2-E4
A kind of krautrock Tubular Bells. Gottsching plays everything as instruments build in to a single hypnotic track.
I'd also suggest Departure from the Northern Wastelands by Michael Hoenig.

visit www.helpmechill.com and click on listen live its all downbeat/ambient.
O.K. some of the music played is downright dull but if you listen long enough you can get a few ideas about what you may love or loathe.
It helped me discover Air, Zero7 and others as an example, not sure I would have found them otherwise.

How about Air, or maybe Electribe 101? However personally I find OK Computer quite trance-like.

With the time difference it's more 'early-evening' for you, but I love to finish my evening listening to Radio 4's Late Junction.
