Hei @ all,

I am new here and i am looking forward to buy a Linn LP 12/Lingo turntable. Now my question - is it possible to equip the LP 12 with a Rega RB 250/300 arm and how will this combination sounds?
Sorry for my bad english...........

Welcome to the forum. You certainly can fit a 250/300 arm to the LP12, but some will probably question whether it's the optimal choice. If you dont already know about it, the Analog Addicts LP12 FAQ here http://www.n.mackie.btinternet.co.uk/linn/tlp12faq.html#arminfo
provides a wealth of info on LP12 related issues including suitable arms and PSUs. The Vinyl Engine forum http://www.nakedresource.com/phpBB2/index.php
has an LP12 room where you might find additional help. What other electronics do you have in the system?

My LP12 had an RB300 on it when I bought it. Whilst the Rega arms are not generally considered optimal for the LP12, I found it worked quite well, especially after I fitted a HeavyWeight counterweight.

The main problems I found were with frequency extremes - very high frequencies were a little veiled and very low frequencies were a little muffled. The HeavyWeight counterweight reduced the problem, but didn't eliminate it, however the all important mid-range was very tuneful and enjoyable.

If I had to go back to a Rega arm and had the option, I'd probably go for an RB250 and fit (at least) an Origin Live structural mod arm stub: OL Rega Arm Mods

That is reckoned by many to make the RB250 a better match for the LP12. Personally, I suspect that the wiring mods, in the context of an LP12, aren't really worth it. If you spend that much, you'd probably be better putting the money toward a used Ittok, Ekos or Aro (obviously the used Ittok being the cheapest of these options).

Hope that's some help,

Chris

Very nice sounding combo! congrats. But consider alternatives to the LP12, Like Notts Analogue, Rega P9

@Peter

Which Nottingham do you mean, does f.e. a spacedeck sound equal to a LP12?

You'll have to know I'm not a fan of the LP12, especially at it's price new. The best one I ever heard was one with an Armageddon and an Aro, but that's c. £5k of deck. I'm a fan of unsuspended decks such as the Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck. You can get a Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck + Spacearm (or an RBxxx) + Wave Mechanic Power supply for somewhere near £2k, a P9 should be thereabouts too. If that's your budget, that's what I would listen too. If it's less than say £1K then maybe the LP12(used) is your step to heaven.
