Uniti - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit + Windows 7 UPNP

Posted by: Simon Taylor on 27 September 2010

I am running a Uniti - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit + Windows 7 UPNP Server.
I initially had a few issues with it and after reading this thread did some investigations of my own:-
This post

There are two ways I use this integration:-

1) From Windows media Player 12 - Play To
2) Browsing shared media on Windows 7 PC from the Uniti

Looking at this using Wireshark i discovered:-

In both situations it works fine if the Uniti has just been turned on and switched to UPNP input - in which case I can see lots of

SSDP M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1
SSDP NOTIFY * HTTP/1.1

traffic from the Uniti out to the network - once that has settled down the Uniti either

a) starts playing the music in case 1) OR
b) presents me with a server that i can browse from the Uniti interface

However, If the Uniti is on and the PC gets booted then switching the Uniti from UPNP to another input and back to UPNP doesnt appear to trigger the same SSDP traffic and I get issues with the Uniti not accepting traffic from the PC or being able to browse it. A reboot of the Uniti solves this everytime.

It appears something else occurs on reboot that doesnt occur on input switch.
I am running Uniti @:-

Firmware Date: 2009-12-14
Firmware Version: 2.1.1.10198

Is there a firmware update that resolves this behaviour??

Thanks

Hi Simon,
I have firmware version 2.0 on my Uniti, but I still get exactly the issue you describe. I quite often have to turn the Uniti off and on for it to re-find the UPnP servers.

I don't know if firmware v3 addresses this behaviour - maybe someone from Naim can confirm, as this is quite an irritating problem?
