Nice Pics David, took a while to load though...

Can I suggest re-sizing the pics to 900 pixel width before posting to save space and time, also means you don't have to scroll to see the whole image.....

Just a thought.

Any excuse to post some climbing pics...taken 2004 on Mt. Bona in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park in Alaska. 10 days of pure joy with near magical weather..until we returned to base camp and got stuck in our tents for 4 days waiting for our plane to come lift us out.

Super Cub landing on the glacier

Not exactly an FAA approved way to store luggage..

Digging out basecamp...

Evening time...in July it never got dark..what a place to sleep and wake up to..

Summit success..

And again..

Now for Nikurch Rama in September...

Jim

Well....the Imageshack code is screwed up and I've had to edit out a few pics..weird....

Thanks Ali and Gianluigi

I have my images uploaded to image shack, I think I need to repeat this process in order to resize, any tips?

I wish we could edit the posts to avoid repetition.

Out of this world Jim!

David

Your pics are only a little wide so I wouldn't worry about it...I use 800x600 for mine just be on the safe side.

I think you have about an hour to edit a post after you first upload it and then you're stuck with it I'm afraid.

Cheers

Great Pics. I was in Alaska but not so adventurous just touring by car. Of course Denali is fabulous and I was lucky with the weather. Saw Mt.Mckinley complete no clouds 2 days running. I drove down to Valdez along the edge of the Wrangall Mountains and got a feeling for how enormous and unexplored that place must be.
You guys must have been ALONE in the true sense of the word. Alaska makes you feel insignificant where ever you go and the "midnight" daylight changes the body clock. I ended up eating breakfast at 4-5am along with quite a few others.

Some of my great memories

I have only ever seen Denali briefly clear of cloud so you were pretty lucky. I have no inclination to climb it though...far too busy for me as I like my mountains remote and devoid of people.

That's some superb panorama's of the National Parks...what camera did you use? Not that the camera matters much if you can't frame and expose worth a damn anyway!

I've been lucky enough to get to Alaska on business around six times since I moved to the US in 1997 and now I have just picked up responsibility for one of our accounts there (well I lobbied hard for it actually) and will get there about four times a year...life is tough at times isn't it? :-)

Yes, we were alone and around 120 miles from the nearest habitation (McCarthy Pop. 29)...running low on food waiting for the plane was interesting but the weather eventually cleared enough for them to get in for us. The alternative was huge walk out with 100lb's+ each of gear, through dangerously crevassed terrain followed by bad river crossings and wandering through big grizzly country...we would have been unlikley to make it with out mishap. We were so desperate to hear voices other than our own that we tuned our VHF radio onto the commercial aircraft frequency and listened to the pilots talking to ATC...but of course we could not talk to them unless we were in real trouble as the FAA doesn't like their frequencies used for normal chat!! :-)

Cheers

For the National Parks shots I used a Canon SLR Film camera and "stiched" shots together which I had "panned" intentionally and "scanned".

Scary trip you had. Your experience highlights what they say in the National park guide on the Wrangall's. It warns that you should take medical kit and if you have an accident expect to have to survive for several days before help comes. Obviously you would be crazy to go in there alone.

I would love to see the remnants of the famous bridge the miners built above McCarthy? That tale has an eerie feel to it.

Great job on the stitching and image manipulation to the exposures to look standard. Thisguys stitching and manipulation is amazing.

What software do you use....apologies to all for temporarily hijacking the thread!

I have a stitched Alaskan panorama but it's on my Mac at home and I'm stuck in Houston until Tuesday but I'll post it when I get back home...not in your league though.

Cheers

I was at Blackpool a couple of days ago, does this count?

P.S. There is no programme that will enable stitching to be done successfully.

That's a very good photo, very atmospheric.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this though? I suppose it all depends on your definition of successfully?

There are some very powerful tools out there and unless you go right down to near pixel level it's impossible to tell that they have been stitched (other than the angle of view of course).

I suppose it does depend on what each individual thinks as successful. Mine is, if I can seen the joins.

If you use these programmes on images containing brickwork, the joins stick out a mile.

I thought that a blended image of Salisbury Cathedral would be in order here...if done properly with the right software you can't see the joins....

Jim,

If you like using stitching programmes, use them, but in the long term you'd be better off learning how to fully manipulate images in Photoshop.

Another Blackpool shot taken at the same time, but landscape.

I'm interested to kmow how you can join multiple images in Photoshop without stitching them?

Jim

P.S. Another good pic BTW.

Amazing job!

Here's one for Gianluigi. This is seven images stitched together in photoshop. Still a holiday shot, so not straying off topic!

This is a single shot from the same spot, using a 24mm lens (equivalent 35mm film).

Hi Count!
Good job!
I've always been charmed by these softwares and their skills.
Here at home i have my father's 30 years old Yashica cameras (model D and Twin lens reflex) and some other old Canon as well as filters and long lenses etc.
I'm tryin' to persuade him to get a new digital one, but he is like the one who spent his life listening to vinyl and been offered to buy a cdp!
Can you suggest a good digital camera to get?
I think i'll get one for me.

Another pic from my few hours in Blackpool.

Gianluigi,

Do you want an SLR? What budget?

Some seasonal pics this time.....

To start with, here's how things look at home.....

This was the reason I was delayed from going back off-shore to work, much to my disappointment of course...... Big Grin

My gorgeous other half has been busy at her work though........

A good effort I thought!!

In the end I finally made it back to work, but not before having a night out in Bergen. The Shetland's were out the game completely and everything is still flying through Norway....but once we eventually got there our chopper went sick!!

Here's a couple of the fixed wing in Bergen....sorry for the quality (or lack of) but I was using me phone!

The night out in Bergen was a blast....
How does £7 a pint sound to you though.... Eek
Felt really rough on the chopper ride out the next morning too, but it was all worth it!!

Cheers,
Ali
