If it offends you then I apologies. Feel free to report the thread as offensive, after idunno has completed your task.....

Ali, I AM chinese and there was nothing offensive in your remark unless you completely miscomprehend what was written.

As for the task, it appears to be a smokescreen designed purely to establish Counts photographic credentials. In the absence of details it could be to do with filters in BW photography, the colour of the light and filters, multiple exposures for tricolor photography, exposure compensation regarding filter factors...

No doubt he will retort with some rubbish about how I am trying to avoid an answer, however, I will be blunt - black and white photography with colour filters has fuck all to do with the parallax errors in a full colour stitched panorama, which is what was being discussed. With that in mind I fail to see the point in making much effort to respond to that particular challenge since it is completely and utterly irrelevent to the point at hand unless Count wants to change this into a mere pissing contest to see who knows more about photography in general... I was merely making specific points about proper panoramic technique and limitations of photoshop which is something he clearly needs instruction on despite his self professed claims to being an expert.

Furthermore, the link I provided contains sufficient information to verify my points, as did my original post had he taken the time to understand it instead of getting off his high horse about somebody challenging him and miscomprehending what was written (I sense a pattern)

Evidently I am not alone in my opinion of Counts astounding arrogance and the way in which he ridicules others, and feel it is a disservice to other forum members to allow his errors and misinformation to go unchecked. If that overshadowed your thread, sorry.

I rest my case.

I have some holiday snaps posted in another thread on 35mm scanners if you care to see. May post a few others if I get some time this weekend.

Seems you both are the one's with no sense of humour. Chink indeed. This is becoming embarrassing.

IDunno,

You behave exactly like the typical Naim forum poster, as I must boringly point out every few posts. Again, you try to use the "we're all against you" and "I'm in a gang" sad method of arguing. You really are pathetic. If you want to play that game, I've just shown your posts to a couple of the guys in the studio and we're all having a laugh. That's how boring we are!

If I get into any handbag fights on this forum about photography, I'll resort to asking the dimwit a very basic question. Always effective. My B&W filter question does have something to do with your previous post. Someone who understands the basic photographic principles and had not done the experiment, would still be able to work this out. You we're telling me about lenses, WELL ANSWER THE QUESTION!

And don't provide any more of your boring links (which you still don't understand). Tell us about photography from yourself.

The hole for you is getting deeper. As asked before, go over each and every point I've made and respond to every one.

So, please don't rest your case, pick it up and swing again.

At a risk of being riduculed I guess that the different filters could affect the focus point and the angle of view of the lens as they colours will refract differently, as for what colour has the most effect I am too far away from my Physics A Level class.

THe use of a non colour corrected lens may well give a more exaggerated effect.

Derek,

You would never be ridiculed, as you are always polite. (And you've had personal email help from me!)

I got a pair of those food dispensers for birds and put them in the garden.
Now i have cat's footprints on windows all over the house.
I wonder what will happen when the new dog will be here.
My father said he want to move!

Hi Fredrik!
You don't know my cats!
The old one is fantastic!
She could slap my old, dear dog's nose without a crease.
And doggy did shut up with no reaction!
This is a crazy family!

iDunno,

As I invited you to post your images, I suppose I should post a reply.

If you are a keen photographer who likes to dish out advice, (which by the arrogance of your posts you are), perhaps you should take a step back and review your own capabilities. Given the wonderful subject matter, you've done a pretty poor job. Your images are snaps with little thought, poor technical application and what would be expected from the typical holiday snapper. They don't reflect the quality of work I'd expect from someone spewing out criticism and advice.

Regarding the question, Derek was basically correct, as were four indiviuals who emailed me (why don't you guys post?) Wasn't difficult for anyone who genuinely understands lenses and doesn't just read internet sites.

P.S. Congratulations to Derek for getting some of his images into The Telegraph.

count.d,

I'm curious, without trying to provoke you (honest!), what you make of my efforts ie. the images from New Zealand or the orchids in Malaysia etc at the start of this thread....

I'd regard myself as a holiday snapper, as you put it (so you won't bruise my ego) but I have a desire to take my photography more seriously, hence the reason I'm looking to up-grade to a DSLR....

Cheers,
Ali

Provoke me!

Ali,

I write short and to the point for speed, but all my writing is done light heartedly.

There's nothing really wrong with your images. I like your cropping, it's what the subject you photographed needed. If one were being critical, which you asked, I would say:

Kaikoura peninsula: you have been limited by the road in the foreground. Ideally it would have been better to move forward to get rid of it.

Akaroa in the morning: Same point as above.

Milford Sound: I would have pointed the camera down a little and got more lake/less sky.

Glenorchy: I would have tried to have avoided the road on the left as I find it a little distracting. There again, with the right lighting, the road could look good.

Basically nothing is wrong with your images. You've got over the biggest hurdle by cropping to a panorama to suit the subject, which is a leap in creativity.

To add a bit of interest, I tend to add a little vignette to many images, but this can look a little tiresome if done too many times.

Please don't take my opinion on snaps too serious. The Blackpool images I posted here were snaps. I was working on a job there last week and literally snapped (and I mean seconds) a couple of beach ones behind me. I'm not saying they're great, but they were snaps.

If you need anymore help, please post some more.

Ok so I should have put a Winker after the 'provoke me' comment, sorry... Big Grin
I'm just getting to know you on this forum, and our intro wasn't exactly the best to be fair...

To go back to the pics...
Kaikoura - none were taken with a tripod, and I was standing on a bench to get a bit of height hence the road....I know what you mean though, and in fact a guy (who I assume was local) drove up, took out his tripod and SLR, snapped a few shots then drove off.....I didn't have the gall to ask if I could borrow it......and I wasn't taking mine to the other side of the globe, on our honeymoon.....I was a bit cheesed off by the people in the shot too, and they made it a pain in the ass to stitch....but it was such a beautiful evening, so I didn't ask them to move.....

Akaroa, heck, I like the foreground 'cos it reminds me of the campsite, but I know where you're coming from....

Milford - It took me ages to find a series of pics that stitched ok for this one, and I still think it's squint....low on the right....I could crop it narrower though to get rid of some sky I guess....

Remarkables - you haven't mentioned this one - does that mean you like it..... Big Grin It's one of my favourites, we're blowing it up and printing it off, at costco believe it or not!

I need to cut down a bit though, we were there for just over 3 weeks and I came back with 8 128Meg memory cards all full.....this was one of the tips in this months DCM (Digital Camera Magazine) as part of their top 50 tips to be a better photographer.

Jeez, just thought - it was almost a year ago exactly we were there, New Zealand, as it was our first anniversary yesterday......and I'm bloody well stuck out here at work!!

Oh, you'll have to excuse my ignorance too.....what do you mean by a little vignette when applied to images.....??
Are you talking foreground interest.....

Cheers,
Ali

Yes, the Remarkables was your best image.

Ok, so I was just out of me bed (night shift) earlier on and I thought you were taking the piss count.d when I first saw your reply....but now I've woken up I see what you mean.....
The light roll off at the edges, gives it a nice effect, focuses your attention into the mountain range and cloud highlight (the best feature of the shot I thought), how'd you do it.....?

Did you use photoshop.....??

Cheers,
Ali

Ok, and you've also tweeked the colours.......hmmmm

If I e mail you the full size image could you do the same and send me it back please.....
It makes my original shot look quite bland..... Frown

We use paint shop pro x at home, not sure if I could do the same though....

Cheers,
Ali
