Nait5 PSU options

Posted by: Pictish on 23 May 2003

I have a Nait5 and Headline amp. I also want to add a Stageline, but for this I also need some form of external power supply.
With the possible addition of a CD5 in the distant future, any recommendations to which power supplies and powering which components?

Cheers
Mike

I'm running a Nait 5 off an older Hi cap, and it is astoundingly good, punching way above it's weight class.
I also found that the cd5/hi cap is an outstanding value for the money, particularly since hi caps can be had relatively inexpensively. In fact, unless one is preparing themselves to upgrade their cdp via the xps route overtime, a CD5/hi would be my choice for a combination to stick with/retire.
This being weighed against an 82/super/cdx2/250 combination. The differences simply are not that vast.

With the Hicap on the Nait wouldn't I still require another PSU for either the Stageline or Headline?

One of them can be driven by the aux power outlet on the Nait, although I think the stageline would be the least complicated hook up.
I have driven a stage off the aux 2, Hi and a super, and unlike the other vfm comparisons, I am very taken with the stage and a better power supply. The Nait 5 does incorporate a built-in supply. I am only speculating here, but if that built-in is part of the preamp stage, then juicing the Nait with an outboard supply should realize some improvement over a bare Nait for the Stageline too, over and above the preamp impovements for all sources when upgrading a preamp power supply.
I suppose I could experiment, but I'd be looking for a degradation, so why invest the time?
