Musicians/stars who use Naim
Posted by: Jonathan Gorse on 02 March 2002
Just curious what sort of hi-fi professional musicians use. We know Robbie Williams uses Bryston and PMC and Dave Gilmour uses Mana tables but who uses Naim?
I would guess quite a few do because of its musicality.
The only ones I know of are: Charlie Haden who apparently uses 250/SBL's and I've heard rumours Kate Bush has DBL's.
Anyone know any others? Just curious.

Me on the left, and my friend Jeff (42/Snaps/140) on the right. No record label contracts yet, but I did recently burn a cassette tape of us recorded 6 years ago to CD-R. Almost famous..NOT.
I read years ago that Kate Bush was the proud owner of LP12/Ittok/Asak/32/Snaps/250/Sara. So I suppose by now she would either have gone the DBL route or become esconced in the Linn Binn (TM A.Randle

Hi all:
Whilst working 'in the business' during the mid eighties I installed for:
Alfred Brendel - Full Quad system
Nigel Kennedy - Full Quad system
Annie Lennox - NAD (mid range) with KEF speakers
Ah well...
Best Regards,
Mark Dunn
PS Meeting Annie Lennox was quite literally a very visceral thrill. Some people just have an enormous amount of personality/electricity/aura.

Generally, professional musicians that I've come across use very simple kit
I've noticed this too. My brother is a professional musician in Austin, and through him I've met many others. Although they tend to be intensely interested in music of almost every description, and although many have astonishing music collections, these people seem to have little interest in the reproduction end. OTOH, they are very concerned to make sure that their recordings are of high quality, which is funny since my brother, e.g., has no way of hearing everything he's recorded on his stereo.

Noel Gallagher is said to own a fully decked-out LP12. Maybe even has DBLs.

Surely Peter Gabriel must use Naim kit, after all he's only just up the road. I did hear a rumour that Mrs. Gabriel doesn't like you to mention Kate's name around her, that may put a damper on things if KB really does own some Naim kit

Surely this is no place for salacious gossip. If it is then this forum is in danger of seriously upsetting the apple cart. Let's play nicely now...

In the Model Railroading world there is this site with celebrity model railroaders:
http://www.boldts.net/TrainsCelebs.shtmlSome musicians and rock stars in it!
Anyone keen to do the same in the Naim world?

I recently flogged a spare hi-cap to a violinist with one of the London orchestras. And a huge Hornby to Kate Bush.

In the first Morse episode, rebroadcast quite recently (though before John Thaw died), Morse's pre-CD system from the mid-80s had what looked very like a 42/110, with possibly a Xerxes t/t.
Course he's not a real person....

Yes indeed; there was Naim kit in evidence in the early episodes.
Later episodes showed some very average Jap Crap Midi system.
No wonder he lost the will to live!

Can't comment on his preference for Naim gear, but he, or at least the producers & engineers of his "US" album, did apparently like the Linn sound. The liner notes indicate it was recorded using the Linn Numerik system. Some love the sound of that record, some hate it. Seemed a little bloated to me, but fairly natural sounding for an all-digital affair.

Hi Jun,
There's no need to do a survey into relative orchestral health - 'London Hi-Caps, Vienna Supercaps' says it all.

My dealer told me that Kate Bush is using full Naim gears, CDSII/NAC52/Supercap/NAP250/DBL, not sure it's active or not though.
Apparently also Michael Caine!!!!

Old jokes' home:
A woman in a room is fellating Jim Morrison and his
band members. When she's finished with them, she moves
on to Mick Jagger. At this point, Michael Caine bursts
in and shouts "Oi! You were only supposed to blow the
bloody Doors off!"

On the innersleeve of Nazareth:s "Sound Elixir" it says "Linn and Naim audio products supplied by The Sound Room, Vancouver B.C."
Doesn't sound particulary good, but anyway!
