Anyone know if an update is in the works, or even possible, for this?

I've heard that the r-w version of CDs is problematic and that plain R is best.

I think you can get a software upgrade. I got an ex dem CD5 a couple of months back which does play CDR-Ws. I had read that the 5 didn't play these but the dealer told me it had been sent off for an upgrade a couple of months before.

I don't think so!
Why not just use CD-Rs?

...when CD-R blanks are so inexpensive? The CD-RW blanks don't sound as good.

...and the 5 WITH PIC upgrade will definitely NOT play CDRWs - just master on CDRW, then burn to CDR if you have to use an erasable disk during the mastering of your comps.
