Better Nait3+FlatCap orNait3+Nap90.3

Hallo,
First of all I apologize for my terrible english.
I've got a wonderfull Nait 3 and I want to upgrade it.
Is it better to upgrade with a FlatCap or with a Nap 90.3 ? And why ?
Is it true that Nait 3, used as a pre, is "fed" by its own power unit inside, or not?

bye

When I had a Nait3, I prefered to add a flatcap because to my ears it brought a better improvement than adding a 90.

Thanks a lot Arye...
How did you connect the FlatCap to Nait3? How many cables are needed?

Ilan, Naim's dealer here made the work. I think that he opened the Nait 3 and changed something in it.

I upgraded my Nait 3 by adding a 90 power amp. My dealer (Infidelity) recommended that, on balance, the power supply on the 90 was as good as the flatcap and that separating the pre and power boxes was the better option.

The ribbon cable that connects the pre and power stages in the Nait is cut or desoldered and the pre stage fed to a new socket that is installed at the back (currently blanked off on your Nait). Cost me £25 last year. The mains cable feeding the Nait is folded up and tie-locked (you won't use that if the Nait is converted to a pre-amp).

The 90 powers the Nait via the DIN socket on the back of the Nait that currently has a blanking plug inserted. One Snaic lead - job done.

FWIW, I found it a far more useful upgrading to a 180 power amp and using the Nait as a pre-amp for a while (I have since upgraded this to a 102).

In hindsight I'd say the 90 upgrade certainly improved things but, if you can afford it, get a 180 and then flatcap your CD player (or the other way round).

Hope that's useful.

Ben.

Again, wouldn't the cost be less if you sold the Nait and bought a 92/90?

No. At current prices, you'd be £100 - £200 out of pocket.
