Remastered CD's

Posted by: Simon Adams on 07 January 2004

I recently purchased the remastered versions of David Sylvian's Brillinat Trees CD along with the remastered versions of TheThe Soul Mining and Infected CD's.......I have to say that all three CD's sound MUCH better. Has anyone else heard any good remasters recently?

I have also wondered about the Nick Drake remasters? My originals have died. Two versions in the shops. Remastered and not. What do people think?

Hi!
Buy the remasters, they are better.

One of the best remasters I've heard to date is the Grateful Dead's American Beauty (so I expect their other albums will be as good). The Drake ones are excellent, as are the Beach Boys twofers which came out 2 years ago, The Byrds ones on CBS, Fairport and Traffic on Island...

Interesting - I never really got on with The The's Mind Bomb mainly due to it's searing, fatiguing sound. A shame as the music was excellent (if you like that sort of thing) and the recording seemed to have lots of hidden potential. I saw the remaster going for a song recently and decided to buy it on a whim. Amazing! It's still a little bright but so much easier to listen to.

I'll also put my hand up to praise the Byrds remasters on CBS - superb!

Supertramps classic 'breakfast in america' has been re-released as a 'remaster' (it sounded pretty good as it is / was) Has any one heard the new version yet and if so is it significantly more enjoyable to listen to?

Hi Haroon,

I refer to the original CD. I haven't heard a vinyl copy.

I agree, Kingdom of Rain is definitely a highlight!

I have bought the Stones old records in SACD format. The sound is fabulous.
For the one that would like to hear what was the real Stones sound, I would recommend Out of their heads or Big Hits (High tide and green grass)in SACD format (not remastered format)
