England, let the country watch the team!
Posted by: Henners on 11 September 2008
I would welcome anyone to add their congrats to our overpaid underachievers in their win in Coatia.
Id also like to add that Im disgusted that I couldn't see the match, although I have sky I do not intend to add another pay per phew channel.
The FA should be shown up for the greedy premier league like folks they are.
If the FA want the country to support the team let the country watch the team. Otherwise who cares anymore???????
Regards Henners

I agree it is a disgrace that the nation cannot watch their team play without paying extra, however I didn't feel that so strongly when I thought they were going to lose the game!
Also, as I understand it, the FA do not own the viewing rights for the away games. The home games will be shown on ITV.

I saw the highlights on Sultana for free. Walcott and Rooney played quite well - Lampard's goal should have been allowed and the Croatian goal disallowed for foot-up (it was over JT's head and he was standing up straight).
I'm much more enthusiastic now we're going to win the World Cup

Nobody mentions Setanta...

Let me know if we still win

It's a fact of life that where there is interest there is a business opportunity. Setanta will provide coverage of the England games to you for a fee. I'm a mug and subscribe to both Sky and Setanta. I would prefer to watch for free of course but in this day and age, that won't happen.
I try to break things down into small chunks when deciding whether something is worth buying. The subscription to Setanta works out at about one pint of beer per week. I watch a lot of sport so it's not a bad trade-off IMO. In fact it would cost me more if I went down the pub to watch it. And it's much better value than Sky's PPV offering of Amir Khan's humbling last week. What was it? £14.95 for 58 seconds? Ouch. That's the real scandal of modern broadcasting IMO - one off PPV events when you are already subscribing!
Regards,
Steve.

steve o,
TIP - Write to setanta telling them you want to end your subscription, they will phone or write back saying that they will let you have the subscription for a fiver for 3 months sometimes longer.
i have done this 3 times now and it works guaranteed.
give it a go...what have you to lose ?
regards, scotty

When we said we were cancelling when they increased the fee to £15 they said OK. About 3 weeks later we got a £5 for 3 months deal.

I've always been baffled why football has its own unique numerical system. On what basis can you have 110% or even 200%, and anyway it all ends up "at the end of the day" and "The boys dun fantastic".
Personally I think it's a blessing that we don't have to actively avoid it. All that throwing themselves on the ground and crying because someone brushed lightly against them makes me want to vomit.
I used to like football, but I've lost all respect for it.

Well Scotty, I wrote my letter, and got a phone call back offering me 3 months @£6.50 a month (I have the multiroom thing set up). Which goes to show you were spot on with your prediction.
Unfortunately the same day I'd received my Credit Card statement and found they'd billed me twice for the the August subscription (they billed my workmate three times!).
After a heated exchange on the phone I told 'em to stick Setanta where the sun don't shine.
Ho-hum.

Steve O.

I'm beginning to think we're better off if we can't watch them.
