Out of step

I was recently comparing Chord and Nordost interconnects between my CDS2 and non naim preamp.Without a doubt IMHO the Chord was superior musically to the inherently hifi sounding Nordost.(in this application)
When I bravely subjected some friends (non hifi types) to this comparison I was happy to notice that every one 'tapped'their feet during the Chords performance but not so with the Nordost.Ha ! I was right in my conclusion.
So when I knowingly I asked for their preference I was taken aback when to a man they all chose the Nordost........music or hifi that is the question

Veddy interesting. I've not done comparisons like that, just bought what my dealer said I should get. I trust Naim and they should know.

Would that make the moral of the story be 'to thyn own feet be true'?

The foot-tapping is generally not noticed by thetapper until it's pointed out.
If you're friends are hifi fans who read the mags, it's even harder - they're much more likely to listen conciously for frequency response and imaging than for music.
For me, I monitor more of my response than foot-tapping. I'm not sure rhythm is the prime content of, say, Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony. But the principle is the same. And it's not the natural way to listen for hifi fans, sothey have to be taught.
I learned when a salesman pointed out that I listened to one pair of speakers when he carried them into the single-speaker dem; I asked questions after listening for 5-10 seconds to everything else he carried in. He suggested that I didn't ask questions because I actually liked litsening to music through the speakers, and he suggested that I seriously consider buying them even though they were not audiophile-approved and were less than my bugeted cost. He was right.

A friend, who must remain unidentified (as the Naim ministry of audio correctness would 'sort him out') is using a non-Naim silver wire interconnect between his CDSII and 552.
Heresy indeed.
He prefers it, and that's all that matters.
Come on you naughty man - out of the closet with you!
