I see that some of the image hosts are offering video storage online. But how does one upload a video when a mere ten seconds of webcam imagary adds up to a whole Gig?

I use still image compression all the time but haven't come across video compression yet. I shall soon, thanks to your kind intervention. It's not what you know but which search words to use.

the divx codec is something you might want to look for. Then search for VirtualDub to actually do the compressing.

Thankyou very much John. I'd like to share some very short video sequences online of some very rare mechanical devices with special interest technical newsgroups. Hadn't a clue how to procede after the problem of the sheer size of the files cropped up. I can do some useful homework now thanks to your suggestions.
