stand alone turntable stand - HELP NEEDED

Posted by: gavagai on 26 February 2004

Hello,
I need to free up the top shelf of my stand, so am looking to get a separate stand for my turntable. I have a Rega Planar 25, but the rega wall shelf will not work (problem with the wall not the shelf). It appears that some people use what looks like a target? stand alone shelf, but i am not sure who the maker is. I would like something that works but also is similar in appearance to EPOS speaker stands. I have hard wood floors. Should I just plop down ten bucks at Ikea and get a lack and put some spikes under the feet? I am kind of at a loss because the Lack is slightly bigger than I would like my stand to be. Any help would be appreciated, but please no recs for a FRAIM or MANA - I simply cannot afford such luxuries (YET!).

I onced used an Appollo Turntable stand that had a box underneath to house my Lp's. I used it with my Roksan Xerxes and it did the job nicely.

I have all my kit on Ikea Lack tables @ seven quid each and I'm very happy. You can spike the Lack which seems to work for my LP12. Worth a try. Can't really loose. beats my old Target stand and Sound Org wall table.

I just bought one of the Roksan tripod tables from a nice man on E-Bay.

It arrived this morning and I cannot believe the improvement and for £30 its an absolute bargain.

Have my LP12 sitting on an old Target stand (~15yr old). Only change to the stand was to replace the medite shelf with acoustic steel (IRAP) and wow, what a difference. Check out eBay of the storage room of your local dealer, sure they have suitable racks that haven't been used in years that are still very servicable and usable.

Good Luck,

Stand and Deliver

Years and years ago, even before Sound Org and Target produced the first drilling rigs for domestic pleasure, THE thing to put your LP12 or Rega Planar 3 on, was an IKEA coffee table.

IMHO, this was only bettered whem AUDIO TECH produced their T/T stand.

Ikea Coffee table £10
Audio Tech £120

I wouldn't even contemplate a Fraim for this task. And as for mana, well that just helps men in white coats identify the nut-cases.

Cheers

Why don't you try another wall for the Rega rack. It's a killer for your player.

Have fun!

Thanks for the help. Still trying to figure this one out. Willem, I do not really have another wall to install the rack on. I would prefer to use a wall rack, but am stuck at the moment. Might have to make a run to Ikea for a temporary solution. I am just not too excited about that.

In which country Don? IIRC, there was no Ikea in the UK in 1984. No shortage of SoundOrg tables at dealers, though.

(I do think the Lack looks great, however)

Best;

Mark,

The UK.

Now I am talking late 70's. If Ikea were not in the UK at that time, then Grahams were probably importing them. They definitely recommended the Ikea table, but the GENERIC solution was a LIGHT table.

Cheers
