Domestic Airconditioning Units...anyone any info...
Posted by: andy c on 06 January 2008
Hi,
as part of my ongoing alteration plans to my south facing kitchen dining room, I now have to consider the option of an air-con unit. I also need to look at a humidifier.
Anyone any recommendations etc?
Any specific questions please fire away...
Thanks
Andy

Andy
I would recommend a split system A/C unit.
Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Daikin are most well known. The system will only cost a few hundred pounds. You can even pick them up on ebay.
They will cool, heat and dehumidify. But not humidify.
You will need to allow for the cost of the installation.
Some split systems are suitable for DIY installation but I can’t remember at the moment which. It's not rocket science, Mount the indoor unit, mount the outdoor unit, connect power, connect power/refrigerant between units through a hole in the wall, simple commisioning.

I also quite like the 'art cool' stuff from LG - looks very nice...

With regard to you requiring a humidifier. When the A/C unit is cooling it will also be dehumidifying.

LG stands for Lucky Goldstar. Lucky if it lasts 6 months and a gold star for 12.
Buy a Fujitsu or Daikin inverter split system, both brands are quiet and reliable.

Hi there,
We had a Fujitsu-Siemens inverter split-system installed in our South/south-west facing conservatory 3 years ago. I would recommend it to anyone.
It was cheaper than installing roof blinds, & a whole lot more effective.
Just make sure the unit you get is powerful enough to cool effectively.
Matt.

Bazz - I know what you mean!
More research being done...

You may want to research if an inverter will effect your music making equipment.
Inverters require different levels of RFI/mains filtering, for good reason. This is application dependent. I suspect filtering for domestic applications may only be minimal.
You may need to put the A/C unit on a seperate spur.
