Just recieved this email

Posted by: Blueknowz on 27 January 2010

From UPS Manager Delores Ellison <support@ups.com>

Re: UPS Delivery Problem NR 04922.

Hello!

We failed to deliver the postal package you have sent on the 8th of December in time
because the addressee's address is incorrect.
Please print out the invoice copy attached and collect the package at our department.

United Parcel Service of America.

I don't know why it came to me, because it doesn't have my email address on it!

Replying gives me this email address inmates1@monface.com

It's either a scam/spam or a virus I think!
I did not post any parcels in December!

This is a common spam scam I've received many times. The language is awkward, even for American English. And the file they want you to print installs some sort of virus or "malware" on your computer.
Avoid!

Mr Google knows nothing of the email address but the site http://monface.com/ looks like a French social networking site known to Mr Google but with only one entry and two pages on the site I'd stay away.

I just got a fantastic new one...:

"As you are aware of the activities of terrorist attacked at our airport, during our daily routine on 100% inspection of incoming and outgoing flights, we arrested a man with a consignment that claiming to be your partner, after we scan the trunk box, we discovered the trunk box contain liquid cash in [US] Note and other documents attached to the consignment did not carry the suspect name, but carrys your name and address as the receivers of the trunk box and this is very SUSPICIOUS.
Get back to me immediately to explain your intention; before I proceed to contact my superior and your embassy for more investigation, hope you are not sponsoring terrorism with this fund? Be very sincere to me please.
Yours in service,
Office of Thomas Frederick,
Metropolitan police chief.
Heathrow Airport UK."

Am I under SUSPICION? Bugger!

I don't think the police/airport security would send you an Email more likely to kick your door in during the wee small hours. Looks like mischief to me.

It is the Thief Row postmark that gives it away.

Blueknowz,
Be aware that as you opened the email, these folk now 'know' your address is 'live' and will continue to send loads of stuff the same / similar to this.We get on average 3k per week to the email addies at work and have learnt how to deal with the vast majority of it. Your address will almost certainly be passed on to other scammers / virus senders as well, it's a fact of life for using the internet.
Any like this get 'block highlighted' and deleted immediately without even opening them. Most are automatically sent to 'spam' by training the email reader.
If you opened the attachment then you WILL have something on your pc that you dont want - it may not be a virus, but it will be a tracker / malware bit of software that is doing its thing inviting other stuff your way etc.
A simple scan with spybot etc will usually get rid of it - but I would check it out in any case.
Spybot, C Cleaner and a quick virus check here every day, with a full deep scan on a weekly basis. It still amazes me what gets through.

The terribly authentic sounding:
"Thomas Frederick" <thomasfrederick@mail2police.com>

I did wonder how they would attempt to turn this into a scam of benefit to themselves, and it occurs - probably - that any reply would in some way prove my 'innocence' whereupon I would be invited to reclaim my newly legitimised 'liquid cash'. Naturally, being from the office of the 'Metropolitan police chief', it is only to be expected that a release fee should be payable for this service. How could one think otherwise? All as long as I am 'very sincere' of course.

I'm sure there's amusement to be had from stringing these people along, but I can't be bothered myself.

I do wonder who falls for these things though.

Interestingly the e-mail was headed: "Ref: GXX86HUK" and my normally zealous spam filter didn't pick it up (which is why I opened it). But it was my work e-mail address and I already get more than enough offers to prop up and extend my penis, presumably in order to have somewhere to sport all the replica watches I really should have in my life, and if the weight gets too much there's always 'soft cialis' whatever that may be (a contradiction in terms at the least I should think).

I thought I was quite dilligent with this stuff but have been phished recently. My credit card expired and I got an email from BT admin asking me to update my account with the new card (which I did indeed need to do). It looked utterly kosher including the sender address etc but proved not to be the case! Perhaps a coincidence the phishing mail arrived a few weeks after the new card came but it suckered me.
