Does the HDX have digital out?

Posted by: Consciousmess on 06 June 2009

Hi all,

I am due to receive a 555PS for my CDS3 in the next week and I'm excited about this, but I am also considering long term listening pleasure and like the prospect of instant access to tracks offered by the HDX, along with its downloadable qualities...

But I've checked the specifications of the HDX and it doesnt say whether it has digital out. If I was to change my CDS3 for the HDX, I like the idea that I could upgrade it in the future with the Naim DAC.

Anyway, these are thoughts I'm having now, so I look forward to your help!

Hey Jon - enjoy the 555 with the CDS3, a great combo I hear....I have the opportunity of the same pair and am very tempted...!

Re HDX (a machine I'm toying with myself but am awaiting to see how it develops with the next software and any other hardware additions to Naim's line up), I'm not ever so familiar with it to know it's rear sockets, but it must have an 'out' as they have been showing the new DAC in demos along with the HDX, showing how the DAC improves upon the HDX output....

From the HDX whitepaper.

6. Digital Output – SPDIF
Both Coaxial and Optical SPDIF (IEC958) digital outputs are provided on the rear panel of the HDX. The coax output is transformer coupled.

...and the digital out is a separate but duplicate stream across the PCI card of the local analog output, to minimize the effects of jitter.
