Did not see it, but the result was good, even if the method was embarrassing according to a friend who did watch it.
All too remininscent of our Cricket Team, enjoying a lead, and laying off.

I haven't been following them as closely as I might lately, but that certainly wasn't a fair criticism last summer.

Dear Tam,
Quite right about last summer, when it seems to me the effort was worth the wait! I rememebr the great days (not all that often victorious, but still great) of Gregg, Boycott and so on in the mid seventies!
Fredrik! It is too hot isn't it?

Dear Fredrik,
Before my time, I'm afraid. Such a shame the next ashes won't be on TV though - such a shame, frankly, the Beeb ever lost the rights.
And yes, it's far too hot (even up here in Edinburgh).
regards, Tam

Dear Tam,
The idea of the Ashes not being on the BBC would have been unthinkable only ten years ago.
The way it is going, I think the BBC should reduce to just one serious TV channel, and concentrate on Radio, which is far less costly, and at that I mean simply Three Four and Seven, and let the commercial stations do the rest. Then the TV Licence would not be a burden on the less well off, and as the audience is increasingly spread about in any case, what earthly difference would it make?

Dear Fredrik,
This post underscores perfectly the reasoning behind my suggestion of 'Fiske for Culture Secretary' on that other thread (which also folds in sport, so something could be done about the ashes).
The saddest thing about the whole TV/ashes debacle is that there was a gentleman's agreement that it wouldn't go to sky - as a man of his word I find it profoundly depressing that money trumps honour in this way. That said, I also feel the government was profoundly stupid not to add it to 'crown jewels' list of things that must be on terrestrial.
