The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada-movie recommendation

On limited release the last couple of weeks but well worth finding if you can.
Tommy Lee Jones stars and directs in a parable of loss, loneliness and revenge set on the Tex/Mex border. After his friend is shot he tracks down the man responsible and forces him to return his (decaying) body to his family.
Dry, dusty and occasionally very funny, it is a brilliant movie that touches on issues of racial prejudice, justice, penitence and friendship.
Well worth picking out.

Agreed, superb movie and performance from Tommy Lee-Jones. I'm sure this one will sink in deeper over another couple of viewings.
Incidentally, I didn't recognise the rock star cameo and was blown away when the credits rolled to discover who it was.

Yeah I saw this with a friend by chance and on its last night in that theater. I thought the begining very confusing from overly complex editing. But the second half of trials and redemption to be quite excellent. TLJ sure did catch the "flavor" of the area and interrelationships in those small dusty towns.

'Rock star' would not be my usual description of Dwight Yoakam! Whatever happened to the acting career of Lyle Lovett BTW? He often played the sort of eccentric who would have fitted this film perfectly.

My wife liked it. I prefer a bit more shooting in a film.

Dwight Yoakam played a major character. I was referring to the old man living in a desert shack, played by Levon Helm.

OK, I'll admit it. Who is Levon Helm?

He's the drummer with The Band.
Amazing (blinding) cameo.

Levon Helm was in the Loretta Lynn biopic 'Coal Miner's Daughter' which also starred Tommy Lee Jones.
