He has announced US dates for March - smaller venues than the Dan with a VIP option (accesss to soundcheck etc).
It would be great if he came to the UK but nothing announced as yet so maybe not this time
. I'm almost contemplating a NY mini hol with Fagen at the Beacon theatre as a highlight - Mmmm......

Where did you obtain the release date Geoff? Is that US or European?

Hi Simon
The info was from Wikipedia (which also has what looks like the cover art), and it can be found on Amazon.com too. I guess this is the US release date, which is fine for me as I usually buy the import version anyway.

Nice cover.

Hope this opens ok - just a 20 second taster of the track 'h-gang'. Even at this res the guitar work sounds absolutely fantastic in a classic 70's Dan sort of way.
Can't wait.

Thanks Simon. Sounds great to me!
I understand that track may be released as a single, as I have just found a copy of the cover art for it. Although Donald is known for his esoteric lyrics, I really enjoy the instrumental side of his work.

Not as cool as the album cover, infact not even in the same style!
"H Gang," apparently is scheduled for digital release on January 24th.

After hearing this, I had to dig out and spin the singles that were issued from DF's last CD 'Kamakiriad'.
Nice to hear (previously unreleased) tracks like 'Confide in Me', 'Big Noise, New York' and 'Home at Last - Live' again. Also enjoyed 'Century's End' single from the 'Bright Lights, Big City' soundtrack.
Can't wait for the new one!

Hi All, just bought the 2nd Fagen album and I actually much prefer it the his first. Great tunes but not as tricksy as his debut!

I am not a fan of downloading music from itunes but in this case I shall make an exception:
H-gang is available of the US itunes site in full album length for 99cents as of about one hour ago.
60p to hear Don early - well thats a no brainer!!

Apparently Donald Fagen is planning to remix "Kamakiriad" which will be part of a three-disc box-set, to be released later this year, containing all three DF solo albums.
As there is currently only the original release and a DVDA version, a remastered 'Nightfly' could - if they get it right - be very welcome.

Rumours of a Uk tour also. The three tracks streaming on his web site are great.

He seems to have come a long way since being arrested for sneaking into HM the Queen's bedroom at Buckingham Palace. Good effort!

Luke warm album reviews thus far (Mojo and Q).
Posted on: 03 March 2006 by Geoff C
Well the reviews I have read gave 4/5 and 5/5 stars, and ultimately as the clips (from all the album tracks) I have heard sound great to me it's another definate purchase.

Five stars and a glowing review in this month's Uncut.

The Guardian gave it 5 stars too.

Re the reviews, interesting spread of opinion, when did the Guardian review it? I buy the papaer daily and have not seen this review. Ultimately I will buy it and I look forward to hearing it. I buy three music magazines, Word, Q and Mojo, the former and the latter are by far the best with Q bought out of blind loyalty! I recently took out a subscription to Word as it saves £1.20 per issue and is a really great magazine.

Hi Woodface,
You are right, as my supplied info was wrong about the Guardian, however here is a favourable review from the Independent.

Thanks Geoff, a really good review. I thnk ultimately Fagen will always polarize opinion, you either get him or you don't.

I have had a copy of the album for a few days now (don't ask) and can state that IMO this is his/steely dans best work since the nightfly.
It is a fantastically written and performed album with some of the most delicious playing imaginable. Uncut review hits it exactly right. I think that I have already played this album at least a dozen times and I simply cannot get enough of it. The intelligence behind the lyrics is present as always but there is a great deal of emotion coming through also. Music for the head and heart.
The album is stunning and I cannot rate it highly enough. If there are any luke warm reviews out there then I can say with all confidence that if you like what SD/Fagen do then YOU WILL LOVE THIS ALBUM. Most reviews never had a clue about what makes the Dan tick and what there listeners find in their music.
Remember that Rolling Stone gave aja 3 out of 5 when it came out. Morph will be played in years to come, just like the nightfly and aja (well all of them really!!!).
Fagen operates on a different level to virtually everybody else in the business. Anybody get the feeling that I like this album

Simon, I will buy it tomorrow on your recommendation that it is the best since 'Nightfly', which I love. I really thought 'Kamikiriad' was weak and persevered with'Two Against Nature' but just couldn't get into it.
