He has announced US dates for March - smaller venues than the Dan with a VIP option (accesss to soundcheck etc).

It would be great if he came to the UK but nothing announced as yet so maybe not this time Frown. I'm almost contemplating a NY mini hol with Fagen at the Beacon theatre as a highlight - Mmmm......

You really won't regret this one Malky - I am putting my neck out saying that but I really don't feel I'm wrong one this one!

Fantastic recommendation Simon! There is an interview in this months Word magazine which is really good, he is the only performer I can think of where you need a dictionary to hand to understand some of the words he uses! He is obviously a really clever guy and he always makes me feel a little bit stupid! I will be buying the new album on its release.

I wanted to tell you which are the stand out tracks, unfortunately he has gone and made a standout album!! 52 grinning minutes.

For all those SD dictionary issues!

Good place to keep up with the aLbum release info.

Hi, I ahve been on the dictionary website a few times, really useful for those obscure US references that they drop in. I think his use of language is always interesting; in the Word interview he compares himself to Woody Allen as they are both over educated jews!

Takes a little while to load up but you can hear a US radio show with Fagen introducing the whole of Morph. Rough quality but plenty of dry humour.

Geoff Cottle is a psychic! In the Guardian today, guess what? An extremely positive (5*) review - spooky eh?

How many Fagen fans out there getting the first blast of 'Morph' last night?
Posted on: 14 March 2006 by thejejk
The album's been getting some good reviews in Sweden as well, even in one of the more alternative music-zines... guess I'll have to check it out then Smile

Go for it!

My one word of caution is that, like all Steely Dan stuff, this album only begins to reveal itself after repeated listens. Try not to judge after one play.

Will do! I have the weekend all by myself to do nothing but listen to music (since I conveniently sent my girlfriend away on a sort of a meditation/stress management course... hehe...)

Naim loves Donald Fagen....They go together.

The opening bars of "Morph the cat" are a great way to stop conversation and the rest just follows....

I'm tempted to get the 5.1 version as well just for the fun of it (although playing only on a standard dvd player into Dolby Digital - not dvd-A).

I don't expect it to come close to my 2 channel set up but it would be interesting to see how an engineer who knows his onions would mix this sublime album for 5.1.

Hate to brag.

But we are going to see him live! Big Grin

Will pick up the 'morph the cat' on vinyl if it's decent.
Posted on: 15 March 2006 by Simon Matthews
Kuma - you b.....d!!!! Winker

Where?

Also - what is the news on the vinyl front?

US itunes has a download of an 'extra' Morph track available. It is called Rhymes and was recorded with Todd Rungren (old Al green track methinks). Only trouble is, even if I could, I would have to buy the whole of Morph as a download to get it - Grrrrrr! You can get a thirty second blast of it on US itunes if you go looking - sounds funky and great.

I have heard rumours of a summer Dan tour with Micheal McDonald guesting. Fingers crossed they will come to England.

Read up on the Fagen tour reviews in the 'blue room' in 'Mizar 5'- It sounds like they are smokin.

Anyhow - enjoy it you lucky so and so!!

Kuma-- I'm sure I've read somewhere that its not coming out on vinyl. Have you heard differently? I too, would buy it on vinyl if possible.
matt.

Arrived this morning. Have to say, on first play it sounds like another uninspired 'Kamikiriad' type outing, but I'll give it a fair old chance to sink in before any definite conclusions.
Posted on: 17 March 2006 by woodface
I had a listen to my newly bought copy last night and the first impressions are very good. As I have mentioned earlier I am not a massive fan of the Nightfly but I really like Kamikiriad. I really like track three which is his younger self having a conversation with Ray Charles (sorry I am always terrible with album track titles as I tend to listen to the whole thing rather than focus on individual numbers). I really hope he comes to the UK, I think it depends upon how well the album does. It would also be great if he would do a show like Later? Ultimately his solo work is not up to the best of SD but then little is; my benchmark album is Katie Lied.
Posted on: 17 March 2006 by Simon Matthews
Give it at least three or four plays to give it a chance to get under the skin. When it does start to reveal itself I don't think you will be dissapointed. Sometimes slow burners are the best.
Posted on: 17 March 2006 by Malky
Definitely ain't giving up on in yet.
BTW, how would you say 'Everything must go' compares with 'Two against nature'?
Posted on: 17 March 2006 by woodface
I prefer EMG to TAN, the latter is just too smooth and, dare I say, a little smug? I really like 'Things I miss the most', 'Last Mall' and Everythin Must Go. All are SD classics.
Posted on: 17 March 2006 by Malky
That's encouraging, I thougt Two against nature was really lame and put me off buying Everything must go.
Incidentally, really starting to get into Morph on 2nd listen.
